Halloween preparations

#1 Post by ENSHealy »

Halloween is three weeks from today!! Are you getting ready??

I took a pair of khaki's to Binh's Tailoring here in Madison (made sure to leave the VMO2 hat at home!) to get them shortened up for maximum Magnum authenticity. I said to him, I want a three inch inseam. He started measuring from the hem of the shorts. I said, "No, a 3" inseam" and pointed at the crotch of the shorts, and he gives me this odd little sidelong glance, shakes his head just a little, but marks the shorts like I asked and says "come back in a week."

I pick them up, get them home, try them on....and they look too long! I get out a ruler, and he only gave me a 4.5" inseam! Was he trying to save me from myself? I guess when I go back, I'll have to take a pic of Magnum with me so he knows what I'm going for.

BTW, what do you think: left, middle, or right? Keep in mind, the middle and right hand pictures are hemmed with duct tape, and it was really hard to get that one-inch duct-taped inseam on the right to look natural.

Oh yeah...I'm planning on wearing this to the office (insurance company) on Halloween too, if that factors into anyone's considerations. Also, for your reference, the beard will be gone, and the chest hair will be dyed brown....getting old's a bitch!

Upon further review, the far left shorts above are just clearly too long, it's really only a question between short, and risking public indecency.

You got it down to a tee there, EnsHealy! :magnum:

And there's no such thing as shorts that are too short in the MPI universe.

They're Speeders, which was the closest I could find when I first starting gathering the items in 2010.

I'm thinking just the "short"... it's almost identical to TM's length and also because to me the one on the right is starting to kinda' look like diapers. But either way, you're rockin' it ENSHealy!

You're right about the diaper look...I was trying to use duct tape to "test-hem" 4.5-5" inseam shorts down to something resembling a 1" inseam. There's a lot of scariness going on there, but I assume a professional hem would look better, even at that short length.

I dropped them back off at Binh's Tailoring again today, and asked him to hem them to a 2.5" inseam. He looked at me questioningly and pointed to 3.5" on the ruler, and I shook my head and pointed at 2.5". Then I showed him the two pictures of Magnum. I'm not sure if that hurt or helped his impression of my sanity.

The middle looks perfect to me and that is about the length I like my shorts in general........Unfortunately my wife and son only let me wear that length around the yard and house............

The middle length looks good to me, too, and not just for a magnum costume, shorter shorts are actually back in (thankfully, after a few decades of awful baggy "shorts" that came down to the knees). There is a brand of shorts called "Chubbies" that are very popular with called age guys right now, that are about as short as those on the right. Might not want to go as short as that past 35, but I think the middle shorts are fine for a middle aged guy as long as he has the legs for it, which ENSHealy does.
