Great article.

Seems that Selleck is a Rolex guy as he has the reference number ready.
However, I‘d like to double check with him, I am still convinced that he had a 16750 and not - like he says - a 1675.

Just curious what gives it away that it was a 16750 and not a 1675?

Great minds! :) I posted the same link on the reboot page. I like how TS discussed his vision of Magnum as not a Hawaii-set James Bond and wanted to explore the character's quirks etc. :)

Magnum, P.I. was the show that got me interested in watches. Home From the Sea was I think the first episode I watched fully and I was memorized :) Made quite the mark on my 11-12 yr old self :)

I enjoyed the interview very much! Tom sounded quite happy and not his usual somewhat-guarded (but-always-gentlemanly) self. Perhaps it was because this was a rather casual conversation and a foreign-language(?) publication.

1675 was produced till 1980
16750 started in 1981.

Home by the sea aired in September 1983, so it was very much likely produced at the beginning of 1983.

I know pretty sure, that there was a special watch used only for the production - it was not Selleck's private watch that he wore during the show. After shooting, the watch was taken away and locked up until they continued the next day.

So, I assume that the watch has been purchased by the production company.
And they very much likely would have gone for the newer model instead of buying a discontinued watch that may not have been available anymore. I doubt that they bought a used older watch.

Additionally, the crownguards on the 1675 are different to the guards on the 16750 and from all screencaps that I have seen, it leads me to the 16750.

I have both, a 1675 and 3 16750, and I am sure that I can spot the difference.

That all leads me to the assumption that we see a 16750 in the show.

That's awesome. I'll never look at the GMT Master the same way!

...and thanks for posting GMT. A nice article, but it leaves me wanting more. I thought I remember him wearing a Rolex GMT in Jesse Stone also, but it was a newer model? Funny he doesn't mention that. Thought a watch enthusiast website would dig a little deeper if they managed to get an interview with the Big Guy.

He wore a couple different Pepsi GMT’s in the Jesse Stone movies. His older one like on MPI and in one movie he was wearing the ceramic white gold Pepsi. I read an article where he donated one of his older GMT’s for a charity auction. Obviously I don’t know how many Rolex watches he owns but I’ve read different articles that say he has more than a few. Not a fact but just what I have read.
