Magnums "First" car?

Need some help to settle a difference of opinion, here's the deal: I say Magnum's first ride was the Ferrari, a friend swares it was a ratty old vw bug convertible that was blue with a grey drivers door and a white front end.
So, who is right, or are we both wrong? I know he drove the Audi, the GMC truck, even TJ's van, but a ratty VW?

Episode - year 4, #20, "Dream a Little Dream" and it was the VW. Set in 1979 and part 1984 we see Magnum's first case and first semi-serious love after Michelle.

Magnum's first car was actually a 1954 DeSoto Firedome!* He had it in High School and at The Academy.

That's a long way from a Ferrari! I just can't picture him in that thing.
