Magnum PI swapped the Ferrari for a Fiat

#1 Post by Paul »

Together with my friends we did our own version of the intro.
The video started as a tribute to my little Fiat X1/9.

The Fiat X1/9 is a two-seater which is often called the baby brother of the Ferrari 308 GTS.
Searching for a tune I stumbled on the theme music of Magnum pi.
This was the start of the idea to do a remake of the intro.
Together with my friends, playing Higgins, T.C. and Rick, we had the cast complete.
It was a lot of fun!

I have been thinking to do something like this for years, but with a real 308.
Too bad the car is not red!

Red would have been perfect.
But for some reason the car was in 1978 only available in green, blue or orange.

If you want to make your own version with a 308 GTS be quick.
Some crazy Ferrari fans on the Ferrari forum have started a contest to do one with a 308.

Funny, I've never heard of this X1/9 Fiat.

This comment in the Ferrari forum has me curious: "If you dont get the Fiat reference. Then you have never driven an X. They are very similar to the 308 in handling and performance. Especially once you get some more power in them. There are numerous threads on comparing them. That and the fact that even the guys that cant afford a 308/28 still appreciate that car and the symbolism..."

I've always thought of the Fiat as a decent attempt at a sporty two-seater, but nothing special. This sounds like a special edition. Can you tell us more about these mysterious cars Paul?

The Fiat X1/9 seems to be disappeared from peoples memories.
Back in the day it got rave reviews.

The unique thing at the time was that they moved the entire front drive train of the Fiat 128 and moved it to the back, just in front of the rear axle, giving a mid-engined layout.
I've got mine for over 15 years and it is a blast to ride over the back roads.

Here is a nice article which compares the Ferrari with the Fiat: http://classicmotorsports.net/articles/ ... e-madness/

Another mini version ( or shall we say the domestic version) of the 308 (and a bad one) is the Pontiac Fiero. I'll take the Fiat over the Fiero anyday.

Just an idea, I highly doubt I will ever do it, since I don't (and won't ever) own any 308.
