Season One Theme Song

#1 Post by robspace54 »

The first episodes (1 and 2) which were the pilot movie used the Mike Post theme song. Then numbers two to ten or so used the "jazzy" theme, which was then switched back to the Mike Post / Pete Carpenter theme.

Any thoughts on the whys and the wherefores? I've also preferred the "classic" Magnum Post/Carpenter version, BTW.

Hi Rob,

Welcome aboard!

In the original broadcasts, the Post/Carpenter theme song didn't appear until midway through the first season, in "Thicker than Blood". The Pilot Movie used an extended version of the Freebairn-Smith theme song. Here it is.

There are several different variations on each of the two theme songs. You hear all of them here.

There's already a thread on this IIRC.

They were just going for a different feel in the early episode. Then mid-season, as the show found it's feet, they went in a slightly different direction.

Also, James, there are a couple missing from that list. I think I compiled a list in one of my reviews, I'll try and find it.
