What fragrance (or eau de toilette) would Magnum wear?

For all non-episode specific topics about the show, including MPI-related "tie-ins"

What fragrance (or eau de toilette) would Magnum wear?

#1 Post by mathewj »

I've often wondered what Fragrance or 'eau de toilette' or aftershave Magnum would wear out??

Would he have a fragrance he used for day to day??

I'm pretty sure it would be down the 'sporty/jock' kind of line with a touch of sophistication. The obvious one that springs to mind is...

Davidoff Cool Water

Any other thoughts?

I have a feeling there's an episode somewhere that shows a bottle of aftershave on the dresser - I'm currently tracking it down.

So I'm opening up here and admitting I'm a fan of fragrance's for men, but don't hold that against me.
I know there are a lot more of you out there!!
I'm only a small collector, but I enjoy choosing the right fragrance for the right occasion.

Would love to hear what you think.

"Patchismo" cologne, which is supposed to bring out a persons natural scent. It makes Magnum smell like a combination of old gym shorts and brussel sprouts.

Does anybody recognise this bottle?

Ok I've found it.
Season 4 Ep. 12 - The Case of the Red Faced Thespian.

The opening and closing scenes show the following picture of an 80s bottle of ...something..

What 80's fragrance is this?

and another angle - ?

Somebody must recognise it surely?

Doesn't look familiar to me.

The only one I remember them talking about was the Patchismo stuff from the AmWay kit given to Magnum in the Garwood Huddle episode. I remember the scent was compared to rotten eggs, broccoli, and other equally wonderful smells ...

I would say that the Mag probably wore some type of musk oil...

My thought is that Magnum didn't need after shave...his SWEAT was probably heavenly!!

I think I was wearing Halston Z-14 and Lagerfeld back in the eighties as they seemed to be popular as well as Drakkar Noir. I always pictured Magnum as more of an Old Spice type guy as that is probably what his Father and Grandfather wore. But then again, it is hard to picture Tom Selleck without thinking about Chaz. Now, I think I have found the perfect night on the town cologne for our man.......

Steve, that's sweet! I'm sure my wife would cringe if she saw a bottle of that on my dresser. But it would be worth it.

Whatever they sold in the Navy Exchange in the 70's! Old Spice for sure!
Perhaps Brut or Jade East. Magnum is an Old Spice kinda guy, reliable, basic, never out of style.

Mike, you beat me to it with the Chaz reference. I also agree with Brut being something that would've been popular for him to wear.

I'd agree it would be something unpretentious and classic like Old Spice.

I think the bottle in the picture may be a bottle of Hawaiian tropic tanning lotion/oil. My mom used it when I was a kid and I remember the bottle had a distinctive squarish hourglass shape. The current bottles are mor normal shapesd, but the label has preserved the hourglass theme.

Haha, as soon as I saw the thread title, that's what I thought.
He'd go for something light and breezy with an aquatone such as Cool Water.

...I also have a bottle of it. Should I admit to that??
