DVD Problems

#1 Post by Tom_Magnum »

Have you guys ever had any problems with your Magnum PI DVD sets? Like the discs not working is what I mean (pixelating, freezing, skipping, etc.). Tell me your problems, I would like to see how people get it resolved.

My early season, two sided DVDs, skip and stop. Haven't found a cure for it, although they seem to do better on our best DVD player. The later, single sided discs, are fine.

Yeah, if you have an older DVD player, the double sided discs seem to have some problems. They would do everything you would say (albeit, not ALL the time), and not necessarily on a consistent basis.

I actually went out and BOUGHT a new DVD player simply because of that problem... and it did seem to rectify it (Although I still have problems with my season 4 "Paradise Blues"......)

"My name is Doc Ibold, and I have a problem...."

But yeah, a new DVD player will solve most of that. MPS is right in that the single sided discs are fine wherever you play them.

Well MPS and Doc Ibold, thanks for sharing your stories so far. My 1st season DVD worked fine and same with my 2nd season. Can't remember about the rest, I'd have to check.

I also had a problem with some of the double sided DVDs. I think a total of four episodes over the first 2 or 3 seasons.

The solution to our problems is simple: if there are wrecked discs that any fan has, watch them on your computer! The computer does not detect any of the problems and it's great!

But . . . that's not why I have a 46" plasma TV . . .

Here here! Why watch it on a computer when you have the nice big screen!

I've had some minor problems with a couple of episodes on the double-sided discs - "The Elmo Ziller Story", "Heal Thyself", "Dream A Little Dream" - where sometimes they hang or stop in the middle of playing. This occurs in both my "newish" TV DVD player AND on my "oldish" computer.

I havn't had any problems at all with the single-sided DVDs.

Oh I see James. Well, the Elmo Ziller Story works perfectly fine on my copy of Season Two. Here's one thing that makes me mad with my copy of Season Two: All the clips of Universal Studios at the end of the credits are missing! I wonder why though. Strange....

I had problems with Season 2, most notably Wave Goodbye. This was true regardless of what I tried to play it on (ie. dvd player; dvd rom; Xbox; etc.)

I can't remember any of the other specific episodes that gave me trouble, but there were at least one or two others.

I had problems with the first season. The pilot movie started to freeze up on me. I had it exchanged, and it did it again! This was quite awhile ago though, when it first came out.

I'm no longer a fan of DVD's because of this and they scratch easily. Plus, with times like this I have to download everything. My concern is that DVD's will go out of style soon like beta tapes and VCR's.

I use a Playstation 2 as my DVD player, and I haven't had a problem so far. :)
