For all non-episode specific topics about the show, including MPI-related "tie-ins"

The one thing that never made sense to me was - why is Magnum intelligent enough to solve "162" cases, but he can't figure out if Higgins, who is living right under his nose, is really Robin? :?

Because I think it was a way of him getting to Higgins. Playing with him to make up for all of the "it was the spring of '58 . . . the regiment and I . . .".

Of course . . . it is possible that Donald P. Bellisario got bored and added this later in the series* to get people interested in this "new mystery". 8)

That's a question for James, has anyone ever contacted Donald P. Bellisario asking him this question?

* - edited. Intially I wrote "after the fact" which may imply dialogue and scenes inserted for the DVD release, which was not my intention.

Yes, I'd love to hear what Bellisario said! Also, and I know someone brought this up before, I don't think the writers and producers realized there would be people like us going through episodes to catch flubs twenty years after the fact. Maybe the scprits were written to keep the show "fresh" and no thought was given to any inconsistencies. I'd love to hear the answers from those in the know.

Don't forget Robin also had a number of his novels made into movies and a couple more optioned. Even if he had no creative control over the product, he was portrayed as such a big deal author that he will have commanded big bucks just for the rights.
