Taking Stock: Who's the Longest Participating Magnum Maniac?
Moderator: Styles Bitchley
The old A&E message board was quite active back when they were airing Magnum twice a day (I still have a hard copy of Rick Barnses'episode guide). Some of us were and a few still are on the Yahoo Group Forum but that has died and a few of us have sent links to come on over here to what I still find the most amazing site on the web for info.......Bravo, J.J.burroughsmvp wrote:I don't know if that makes me the winner or just shows my age. I got hooked on the old A&E Magnum forum years ago, giving tidbits from my episode guide for that week's shows. And since JJ started this one, it's been fun to share a little knowledge every once in a while!

Oh my gosh...I'm sorry Mike........I knew that just had a brain fart. My next trip to Vegas I'm going to walk this guide into that Pawn Shop from Pawn Stars and argue with the old man just how valuable and rare this guide is..........burroughsmvp wrote:Steve... you're funny.
Rick's the basketball coach.
I'm Mike... the Magnum fan!

Hey Mike and Steve,
you guys are talking about some stuff that isn't clear to those of us who weren't around in the A&E message board days. Mike, I remember you mentioning your episode guide in the past - particularly the Kindle version - but can you give us a little more background?

I'll give you a little history. I taped all of the MPI episodes when it started in syndication in '86. Then after it ended its run in '88, I decided to write an episode guide, going through and re-watching all and taking lots of notes. After I went through every episode, and before I started "writing", I got distracted by a couple of important things (job and marriage).
Then in the mid-90s, my schedule gave me some free time and I started figuring out how I wanted to "organize" the episode guide (trivia, facts, etc). Re-watched all the episodes in order, again, and got it written. Had no luck with any publishing company, so printed a couple at Kinko's and got busy with other stuff (like having a couple of kids).
Then around 2000, someone suggested "Why don't you sell your book on ebay?" I laughed at them, but then decided to try and couldn't believe the interest. It was just after that when A&E started running the show in syndication and had their forum. So I went on every Sunday and listed the five episodes that would run that week, along with some facts from my episode guide. We had some fun "discussions" while A&E ran the show.
I still put the guide on ebay every once in a while and it's always available for "friends" in discussion groups. I re-typed it for Kindle users for amazon.com this past year, and when I did, I updated the look of my paper version, as well!

We have a retro station here in Chicago that when they started airing Magnum a couple of years ago actually aired them in order. I would have your guide as well as the episode guide on this site in front of me to follow along and watch for the proper episode order to make sure they had it correct (they did), errors and other tidbits. Kudos to both you and JJ................

I've not been frequenting the forum as much as I used to, but I check in every now and then for Magnum news.
I still have not seen Season 8, we're waiting until we've finished building our house which is taking up most of our time!

Like you Dan, I haven't seen Season 8 either. Although I have every season I've been dragging out watching the entire series since 2004. I've watched several seasons several times, but I still wait until the perfect time to indulge in a "new" episode.

Styles, do you have plans to crack it out of the vaults soon?
Seriously looking forward to seeing it next year.
Where's SelleckLover?
She pips me to the post by a few hours I think.

I bust out a new episode every month or so. As I get closer to the end I'm dragging them out even further... I don't want it to end.Dan wrote: No way! I thought I would be the only one!

Next on my list is Murder by Night (7.14). I don't even read the forum threads for the episodes I haven't seen just to keep them fresh for when I watch them.
And yes, in case you're wondering, I'm the kind of kid who never snooped to find out what he was getting for Christmas. Restraint, restraint, restraint (my mantra!).
