Does TC also wear a Chronosport?

Does TC also wear a Chronosport?

#1 Post by jimhalinda »

Hi all, a couple of years back I got into Magnum as i caught episodes on a local channel. (That led to me discovering this forum!) Trouble is, they'd only play seasons 3 through 8, then repeat.

I just got myself a copy of Season 1 on DVD and am savouring each episode as I watch!

Anyhow, I notice that TC's watch (which he wears turned around on the inside of his wrist, presumably so he can read it while flying with his hand on the collective) has the same rubber tropic strap as Magnum's Chronosport. Could TC also have the same watch? I haven't been able to tell yet in the first few episodes - can anybody confirm this?

And if not, then what watch DOES TC wear?

Regards,

Jim

I've noticed this in a couple of episodes as well. As far as I can tell it is the Chronosport, and most likely the same one TM wore as they were all from the same prop department.

Thanks for the reply - actually, I just watched Thicker Than Blood, and there's a pretty good look at TC's watch there.

It's definitely NOT a Chronosport - it looks like it could be a Seiko diver, maybe a 62MAS or a 6105, which were popular watches in Vietnam. But I can't tell for sure, the pictures just aren't clear enough.

He is wearing it on the same rubber tropic strap as Magnum's Chronosport though.

There are also many episodes where the Seiko Diver is used as a stand-in for TM's Rolex GMT. These are in shots where only TM's hand/s are seen, and I suspect the hands/ were not Selleck's, but a stand-in also.

I personally believe that TC wore the Chronosport a few times after Magnum made the switch. The best example I can think off the top of my head to show this is at the end of Letter to a Duchess after Magnum finishes the race and TC is rubbing down his arms. Not the clearest look but it looks about right and the watch band is the same as the one on TM's Chronosport.

I always thought TM's Chronosport had a nylon watchband, RAF style.

I've definitely spotted the perforations that you see on a tropic strap. Also, his strap tapers while RAF bands don't. At least the strap he's wearing for most of season 1 seems to be a tropic.

However, in a recent season 1 episode (I forget which), he was wearing something different again, as it was on a dark brown leather strap! Couldn't tell what watch it might have been though.

So obviously his watch changed occasionally.

I think you're right;
MaximRecoil wrote:That looks like nearly the same watch as the CWC Royal Navy Military Diver's Watch, with the exception of the date display and the words/markings on the face:
