Magnum P.I. Theme Music (Mabelline commercial)

#1 Post by golfmobile »

Just saw a Mabelline commercial for mascara using the theme prominently (or maybe I'm just attuned enough to anything MPI that just hearing the theme on TV when one's back is turned gets my immediate attention!). Wonder how much they had to pay to use that. But, hey, anything to bring the show to the public's attention may encourage making the movie -- AND with the original cast!!!

I love seeing the Magnum P.I. Theme Song used in mass media, but for Maybelline mascara?? It just doesn't fit IMHO. ;)

I saw this commercial over the weekend too. Actually I heard the MPI theme music on the boob tube from the other room and when I came in and saw a cosmetics ad I had to scratch my head? Is it time to add mascera to the list of tie-in products?

I agree that this is VERY strange usage of the MPI theme -- really stretching the idea with the use of helicopter -- mascara is odd enough, but "falsie" mascara?? Other than a few forays on jobs and for "Forty," when was Thomas anywhere near or had anything to do with "falsies"?? I don't violently object to it because I love hearing the theme in almost any context (uhhhhhhhhhh, I won't go INTO where I wouldn't want to hear it -- use your imagination! Or don't!!)

But I am a bit puzzled by Maybelline's use of it. Well, look at it this way -- it got OUR attention! I just didn't know we MPI fans were such a desirable advertising-target demographic!

My eleven year old step daughter informed me there was a make up commercial with the Magnum song in it!

Was that TC in the chopper??? Just caught the advert. Seems to work.

But the name of the product - "Falsies" Mascara - does not sound like soemthing for the eye. Well maybe...

Someone emailed me with this bit of information:
...Another Volum-Express Mascara, The Colossal, is called "The Magnum" in Asian and some European countries, which probably gave Maybelline the idea to use the music for The Falsies.
Can anybody confirm this? I know nothing about makeup, even less about Asian or European makeup products! ;)
