Mad Magazine - The Magnum P.I. Parody

#1 Post by Vanity »

Shortly after they stopped running Magnum PI (in France), I got hooked on Mad Magazine for several years.

Still, and despite the re-editions, I never managed to get hold of the issue with the parody of our favourite show.
It was in issue #227, and the parody was called Magnumb, P.U.

I was wondering whether any of you MPI fans had a copy of it you could possibly scan and post.

Thanks to Tralfaz, Magnum Mania! now has the complete Magnum P.I. MAD magazine parody "Magnumb, P.U." for viewing! It's accessible from the Photos page.

What a fun read. Hilarious! I felt like I was 12 years old again, which is probably the last time I read MAD.

The ending just cracked me up!
We've spent millions telling people what a wonderful vacation paradise Hawaii is, and then they watch your show on TV... And they think if they come here, they'll be mugged, rapped, kidnapped or murdered! YOU are single-handedly ruining our tourist business!
LOL! :D

Thank you again Tralfaz for providing the scanned images. Much appreciated!

That was a real Blast From the Past. I haven't read Mad Magazine since I was a kid, and it was FUN reading the silly Magnum parody. I really enjoyed the clever and witty artwork. Those caricatures are spot on.

Thank you for taking the time and posting this.

Thanks a million Tralfaz, this is simply great.
Moreover, it was drawn by Mad's best, Mort Drucker.

Ah, thanks Vanity. I was just about to ask Tralfaz that very same thing. Not sure why I didn't ask before, but anywhoo... Who is listed as the writer?

I can't find one in the magazine. The only writing credit is "the usual gang of idiots."

Is it me, or does T.C. look like Dennis Rodman in that drawing? Maybe it's the half-open/hooded eyes?

And of course, I feel I would be neglecting my duties if I failed to note that Magnum NEVER wears designer jeans, that is obviously Rick's gig, and Rick and T.C.-err, Hick and C.T. were in the Marines, not the Navy.

I'm fine with parody, but let's get our fact straight first!
