Here's a link from a feature I found on Wired's website on the electric 308.

Re: Holmes Is Where the Heart Is (4.18)

This episode is one of my top favorites. For starters, I'm just a big fan of Higgins - there just seems so much behind that very quiet character. I fell in love with the Sherlock Holmes stories when I was in junior high, and I remain a sucker for anything Holmes-related. At first, the Holmes and Wat...

Re: NEWER DETECTIVE SHOWS

Hey Eagle, Thanks for recommending Bosch to me on Netflix. I will try that out! Netflix now has one of my favorite shows with "Longmire," which I got to thinking probably doesn't count as a gumshoe detective story as Longmire is a lawman. But Netflix is doing some fun stuff, so thank you for mention...

Re: Archer PI

Just found this one online. Thought some of the gamers on the site might get a chuckle out of it. Shows another brilliant use of how someone out there is spending some time. Made me laugh.

Re: NEWER DETECTIVE SHOWS

I think this is a really interesting thread. I think the gumshoe PI with his or her own office has fallen victim to cheap and easy gimmickry that just seems to make any kind of creative medium sold these days so mediocre. I miss stories when the PIs had to use their brains, and they had to look into...

Re: What are you reading?

Hey Harwood! Just a quick thanks of filling me on the other Hemingway detective fiction. Getting ready to order a couple new books, so I'm going to pick the first book up that you mention. Very fun.

Re: Q.E.D. (1982)

FANTASTIC! I knew nothing about this show, but I found the six episodes on Youtube and I'm hooked to give it a try after only the intro and first scene. Thanks for posting this. I kinda wonder how many tv shows might have tried to ride the coat-tails of the Indiana Jones craze by pitching shows set ...

Re: What are you reading?

I was gifted a couple great books for my recent birthday. Enjoyed both of them so much that I wanted to share. Dan Simmons again makes the thread! Here's another one from Mr. Simmons (just one of my top favorites). This one is a fictional tale of Ernest Hemingway chasing submarines off of Cuba durin...

Re: Why not revive Magnum as a mini-series or TV movie?

The cons expressed about any such reunion are good points. I certainly agree that any Magnum reunion just cannot be what it was before. However, I still think a six-part, or ten-part kind of run that's becoming so popular on streaming services could be very good. I would want all the characters to p...

Re: Why not revive Magnum as a mini-series or TV movie?

I agree. I think it would soar. And I also think there's still a very deep, deep well of stories in the Magnum universe. Oh, if only I owned a major television studio! I agree, agree, agree!

Very well put, Bobrobertsxxx. I think you nailed it on the head with your observations regarding male friendships. I hadn't really realized how the fading of some of my close friends from my youth linked to my fascination with Magnum. Just well, well said. Thanks.

Re: A prequel about Higgins?

I have often imagined just such a show! I've thought of that kind of show of being a bit of both Indiana Jones and James Bond, set in all kinds of adventures to the backdrop of events defining the late twentieth century, and today. I kinda imagined a title like "The Queen's Gentleman," or some such ...

Re: I am a 40yo man and fantasize about being like Magnum

I had my first child, a wonderful girl, when I was thirty-nine a few years ago. Staying up late into the night helping feed her, I clicked onto Magnum on Netflix. My father had passed away several years ago, and I got to thinking about how Magnum was a show we both enjoyed when I was a kid growing u...
