Re: What are you reading?

I have been completely fascinated by Chernobyl -- the event, the nuclear power station, and the Exclusion Zone -- since 1986. In the mid-1990s, an excellent photo-journal called Kidd of Speed was released online. A few years ago, I read "Midnight in Chernobyl," one of the best books I have ever rea...

Molchat Doma- Sudno (Live)

I'm most likely one of the few fiftysomething-year-old Americans who absolutely love this band's music. They channel the great New Wave music I loved as a teen but have a sound that is uniquely their own.

Re: Clu Gulager, 1928-2022

I used to watch The Virginian during its early seasons--when Lee J. Cobb ran the ranch and the goddess that was Roberta Shore was on the series. I don't recall many episodes with Clu playing Sheriff Ryker; he obviously made a bigger impression when he played a bad guy! Roberta Shore? Goddess...

Re: Rest in Peace Roger E. Mosley

A previous post of mine referencing Mosley's appearance in the 1972 Blaxploitation film Hit Man went predictably unnoticed in this 1980s-oriented forum, but Roger features in it. Roger's character spends most of the trailer getting his a$$ kicked. 2UIxegXqfwM Hit Man is essentially an Afrocentric ta...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

I remember seeing Clu in the 1974 John Wayne cop film (yes, Duke did 2 of those I think) called McQ. Gulager turned out to be the baddie in that film (what else, right?). But despite being one of the main supporting cast members he had very little screen time. Makes me think that maybe a lot of his...

Re: Mannix

Yesterday I rewatched Gulager's Mannix episode. It's a 10/10 episode for me, as I get a kick out of any episode in which one of Joe Mannix's old squad "buddies" come back to try and kill him! The episode has a bunch of great hardboiled lines in it. I especially enjoyed the flashback scene in which J...

Re: Rest in Peace Roger E. Mosley

Of the main actors in MPI, it was Roger who imo had the most interesting pre- Magnum career. I dunno... John Hillerman starred in quite a few classic 70s films. BLAZING SADDLES and CHINATOWN immediately come to mind. But wasn't he also in PAPER MOON and THE LAST PICTURE SHOW? Probably some others t...

Re: Rest in Peace Roger E. Mosley

Over the past several months I've been enjoying watching Roger's many performances in the so-called Blaxploitation films of the early-to-mid '70s. Mosley was also superb as Electric Larry in his Rockford Files episode Dirty Money, Black Light from S3. Of the main actors in MPI, it was Roger who imo ...

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?

RE: Clu Gulager This was originally going to be posted over in the Mannix thread, but since I went on a Five-0 tangent, it'll go here. After all, this thread is one of my eldest "children." 8) I've always liked "Assault on the Palace." By no means a classic, but Gulager is good in it. I also like th...

Re: RIP Roger E. Mosley

Sad to learn of this, as Roger and company are childhood heroes. Getting the bad news here at Magnum-Mania is appropriate, like getting it from someone who also keenly feels the loss. According to this article , Roger had been in a recent car accident which left him paralyzed. I admire what his daug...

Clu Gulager, 1928-2022

Clu Gulager, an omnipresent actor in many 1960s-'80s TV shows, has died age 93. He's best remembered here as Theo Wolf in Magnum, P.I. S6's cold-stone classic, Way of the Stalking Horse . Gulager's role in Magnum differed from the actor's many bad guy roles at which he excelled. Gulager is positivel...
