Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

The Mechanic , despite being remade, qualifies as obscure. I watched the film last night and appreciate The Mechanic on a whole new level. There's a scene that never left my memory all these years: when Bishop (Charles Bronson) takes McKenna (Jan-Michael Vincent) to a martial arts exhibition and di...

Re: The Comic Book thread

The Vision Marvel Legends action figure. I repeat my statement from the Iron Man Stealth Armor post. These figures are apparently "meant" for those of us in our 50s who endured the 1977-83 Star Wars craze, as these toys evoke the nostalgia we who had the 3.75" action figures manufactured by Kenner i...

Re: Simon & Simon DVDs

You mentioned liking Scarecrow and Mrs. King more than Remington Steele. I have memories of my mom watching it, I believe. Have you seen that recently? I don’t remember anything but Bruce Boxleitner and Kate Jackson being in it. Yep, I saw quite a few episodes over the last few years (and one with ...

Re: Kathleen Nolan

Lots of Real McCoys devotees here at Mannix-Mania. However, only The Annointed know that Green Acres is the one true absurdist rural sitcom. Green Acres is beyond batsh!t crazy. I (mostly) got through the late-1970s malaise through immersion in Green Acres repeats. Hooterville was a sanctuary during...

Re: Kathleen Nolan

Kathleen Nolan had an "Ann-Margret stunt double" quality about her, didn't she? Nolan has an amusing guest role in an episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker . She plays a vapid real-estate agent whom Kolchak has write a story for him while he goes about the business of tracking down a vampire.

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

Thanks, Pahonu. I owe it to my decades-long fixation on that era! I'm sure I can muster long-winded thoughts on a number of early '70s films. New Hollywood is pretty well encapsulated in two documentaries: Easy Riders and Raging Bulls and to a lesser degree, A Decade Under the Influence...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

I read the original Six Days of the Condor back in the 80’s and it was twice as good as the movie.  ...or twice as long! Onward... Night Moves (1975) No relation to the annoyingly omnipresent Bob Seger song of a year later, Night Moves the film is a largely forgotten Neo-Noir dir...

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

Yeah but Becky Holden is a serious thespian. So you can't hold everybody to her standard. I agree, which is exactly why I have a Rebecca Holden Rule! If gorgeous Rebecca can produce tears in her crying scenes then so can those ostensibly "better" performers who got so many gigs in all those ...

Have any of you read the Condor books? I enjoy the film, but not the novels. I wonder how much the film differs from the novel (other than the three-days taken off the time line).

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

Bad news for me is that ol' Hanna has three more Cannon episodes in different guest roles. Bad news? You don't like her? The actress? I find her performances irritating. She's especially annoying in Never Again...Never Again . Her character is supposed to be crying and upset over her husband's disa...

Re: Columbo

You should read Jack Cassidy's bio on IMDB and about his divorce from Shirley Jones. He was a strange character in real life. Bipolar I think he was. Suffered from schizophrenia, depression, etc. Did some weird things. Died in a fire when he fell asleep and his couch caught fire from a lit cigarett...

Some of the best barbecue I've ever eaten was in Vienna(!), so it stands to reason that root beer would be outstanding, too.

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

The Torch , an otherwise superb S1 episode, has a guest appearance by Lena Greenberg herself, Hanna Landy, who plays "Mama Immelman" here but gives the same bad, crying-dry-tears performance as she did in MPI's Never Again...Never Again . Hanna even wears the same "bread knot" hairpiece, and this e...

Stereo??? Come again?? You've got film scores playing on your stereo? Isn't that what YouTube is for? Granted I own a few soundtracks on CD and luckily I have a new car (a 2021!!) that still has a CD player (a rarity these days)... but stereo? Are you playing cassette tapes?? :)...
