Re: Columbo

The best killers all have repeat appearances: Jack Cassidy-- Murder by the Book Publish or Perish Now You See Him My #1 pick, and the guest actor most associated with this show. No one's smarmier, sleazier, and yet so utterly charming! I haven't seen Cassidy in too much else, but I daresay outside o...

Tex Cobb must have spent many an hour admiring Elliott Gould's "Fu Manchu" 'stache. Lucky for Tex he was able to grow his own.

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

I was just about to add The Hot Rock ! George Segal: Movie Star. :D He got a ton of mileage out of his 1966 Oscar nomination for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? , didn't he? Well, I always liked him. In fact, I've yet to see his 1975 comedy, The Black Bird , a Dshiell Hammett spoof which used the ma...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

Continuing with the 1970s--not that I ever leave that decade--I hereby submit Busting (1974) Robert Blake and Elliott Gould play Starsky & Hutch -style renegade cops. Billy "Columbo" Goldenberg provided the funky, energetic score. Gould's mustache gives even The Mighty Selleck's a run for its money!...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

It's weird because I know I saw EDDIE COYLE a few years ago. But I'll be darned if I recall anything about it. I like 70s heist flicks and I remember that's what it was but nothing more than that. Compare this with CHARLEY VARRICK or THE SEVEN-UPS which I also saw around the same time and I definit...

Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?

You have no choice but to separate the art from the artist, otherwise we would find a lot of great works unappealing. I agree, but sadly it's in the culture now to judge an artist's work by the artist's personal life whether or not that personal life intersects with their work or not. This judgment...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) is a "thinking man's" crime drama and a character study. The film is gritty, ugly, and sublimely bleak. Most of its scenes take place in the unblinking ugliness of daylight. A brilliant cast including: Robert Mitchum (legend!), Peter Boyle, Richard Jordan, Steven K...

Most here at Mannix-Mania have long since hit age 40 or higher like a crash test dummy, and they can relate to "Hey Nineteen" more than they'd care to admit.

Steely Dan (the music group, that is): We'll never again witness a pop group as "cheeky" as they were.

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

Anthony Zerbe is “must-see” TV for me! He’s a stalwart of 1965-75 television. He did multiple episodes of Desilu series Mission: Impossible and Mannix , but never Star Trek …that’s a huge missed opportunity! Zerbe did 3 episodes of Cannon . I’m looking forward to seeing his 3 different characters t...

Thursday's Game (1974; filmed 1971). Bob Newhart and Gene Wilder lead a cast of '70s TV legends. The IMDb link has some thoughtful reviews on the movie.

I've never seen an episode of Remington Steele , though my grandmother adored it. Seems like every actor ever appeared on RS, as I often see that show listed in many a performer's credits; same goes for Scarecrow and Mrs. King , another show I've never seen. Gee, this is getting embarrassing!...

Nemo's Dreamscapes has some good stuff. I especially like the ones with the Edward Hopper paintings, complete with occasional passing car.

1975 was a pretty bleak year, but oh-so fascinating. Chicago (the band) before 1977 was great. Terry Kath, baby!

Angie, Angie guest star Larry Storch (not to mention Kolchak: The Night Stalker and Mannix) has died, age 99. The man made even the briefest of appearances highly memorable.

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

"Heavy"? Of course it got heavy . After all, this is the Cannon thread. :( While the series is one with which I have long been aware, watching Cannon now (an episode [or two] every Sunday), is a pleasure much in the same way that obtaining a comic book from my childhood I was unable to get at...
