Let me take you back to those thrilling days of yesteryear when men were men, dogs could patrol, and the Ferrari's ran red! Yesteryear 30 years ago, when Tom Selleck, as Thomas Magnum swam across the tidal pool, picked a lock, and opened that gate into our living rooms, there to find a stuffy majord...

Rick Romer (set decorator) has three postings in his blog on Gillian Dobb (aka Agatha Chumley). Look at the link posted above and you'll find them (look on the right side of the web page). I am sad to read that she would leave the studio, walk to the corner and wait for the bus to go home. Hardly wh...

Ah... one more thought. The morning after Doc Ibold sends TM to sleepy-land Thomas claims he is alright. Then he drives the Ferrari through the gate, drops the hammer, and for a glorious 5 or 6 seconds the car rips in a straight shot away from the camera - while TS intones "I was off to find Mac." T...

And I forgot I drove a red Dodge O24 with a stick shift and a four cylinder engine. No Ferrari, but its what we could afford! :-)

Let us take you back to those thrilling days of yesterday...

Dec.11, 1980 Thursday - I was 25 years old and I remember the premier. I will turn 56 (!) this month and OMG it really was that long ago. The show was great! I had a brass bed headboard that I bought when I graduated from college and moved to Michigan for my first real job. In 1980 my mustache was f...

This show continued to plumb new depths of the characters and they became real people - not supermen. Bullets did not bounce off. Hasn't everyone seeen someone who seems to be a double? I know I have - so much so that you think they MUST be that person? Jim Bonnick has be one of the classic return-f...

Just unwrapped Season 5. This was both tough to watch and also in some ways silly. The double role was pretty obvious by the middle of episode 1 to me. But how do you play a disturbed person and make it look two totally different people? Tough to script and pull off. JH has a great role here and his...

JJ, thanks for the good vibs. "A Goat's Tale" let me get inside the heads of Nick C. and Rita B. in a way that I hadn't done before. That's when I switched the narrative to first person for TM and his two new sidekicks. That was fun to write! Meanwhile those little gray cells keep making me wonder a...

Team Ring - Casablanca

In the movie Casablanca when Victor Lazslo and Ilsa are contacted by a mister Berger in Rick's Cafe Americain and he offers to sell them a ring.

Berger shows them the ring (drum roll); it is the Cross of Lorraine.

Victor declines, showing that he already has such a ring.

Years ago we saw Gary Sandy (Travis) at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in a production of 'the Glass Menagerie.'

And of course - this week was turkey day... OMG turkeys are smashing to the ground...!!!

The Simon Brimmer character was never in the books. He was a TV creation to give a ploy to EQ.

Fun to see what I think are the roots of Higgins in that character.

The story behind the story... last June/July I was working on a story (call it story C) in my Magnum-verse of 2010, the third story I've penned. I got bogged down so set it aside. The day I decided I was stuck I was cutting the grass and thought about a line in story C where TM talks about the Ferra...

I agree that this episode was not the usual cars, guns, girls and palm trees fare of Magnum, but to see Hillerman as a stand aloner chacter, and in a back story, was great. The Higgins character, who was laid out as a boorish, authoritarian, stick in the mud, developed into a person of feelings, dep...
