Re: Hawaii Five-O: Any Fans?

I've only got season 2 of Hawaii Five-O, so I can't comment on later episodes. About 5 years ago, I ordered the whole box set, all seasons - from Amazon. That's when Amazon was still absolute crap in Canada. They told me after ordering , that they expected it to be available in two months . After wa...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

Could TC's "flip-fall" in the burning cane fields have been more corny? I've done a lot of running through fields, but I've never flipped like that. How is it even possible? I remember rewinding and watching that flip over and over, saying to myself, "Now how the hell did that happen?" I'd like to ...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

I don't recall describing the movies as crap, in fact I said I liked them despite any shortcomings. You didn't describe it as crap, but Pahonu said "that piece of crap movie" and then you said "the writers run out of ideas, struggle to resolve the plot so they go with a standard formula" - so that ...

Re: Did You See the Sunrise? (1) (3.1)

I never heard the rest of that story, namely your trek home after going aground. That's because it's not suitable for a family audience - too many swears, lots of violence, "adult situations", etc. No, it's probably because it's still too painful a memory - 25km death-march over gravel roads, baref...

Re: Did You See the Sunrise? (1) (3.1)

He could have done like the same friend of mine did years ago with a different kayak he had then. He had an old VW diesel Dasher and he put the passenger seat and rear seat down and it hung out the rear window about 6 feet! He tied a red rag to the rudder post. The Jimmy is bigger but a surf ski is...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

What is a "cornball", exactly? Is it a ball made out of corn? Who would make such a thing - and how would it apply to TV shows?

Re: Did You See the Sunrise? (1) (3.1)

I've never seen Magnum transporting the surf ski on a vehicle. He couldn't possibly do it on the Ferrari or the Audi. He could only use the "Jimmy", but I don't think it had a roof rack. So that means the only way he could move it is paddling from the beach in front of the Estate. It probably got bo...

Re: Being a WW2 vet, would Higgins really drive an Audi?

The above is very interesting, it is indeed a small world and it is good to remember Canada was in the war too. Do people in the US actually forget that Canada was in the war? How is that possible? Canada was in the war in 1939 while the Americans waited until Pearl Harbour two years later. Canadia...

He also speaks Mandarin. He once taught "Oriental languages", didn't he?

What? You didn't read my "Obscure Movie Recommendations" thread? "Queen of Hearts" is in the first post - with link to full movie. If you haven't seen "Gattaca", see it!

Re: What do you use to watch movies/TV? (CRT, LCD, computer, phone??)

I don't do "streaming". Internet streaming is like a spy mechanism to determine exactly what and when you're watching something. Also, when you're finished watching, the thing you were watching is gone. I like to have the file permanently on micro SD and watch it whenever I want by plugging it into ...

Re: The Tom Selleck Thread

I really don't know Shore from squat, except that he scored all those LORD OF THE RINGS movies which I have zero interest in. Couldn't get past 15 minutes of the first one. There are some composers (like Shore) that I couldn't hum a single thing by them if you held a gun to my head. I guess you've ...

What do you use to watch movies/TV? (CRT, LCD, computer, phone??)

I think I already know the answer to this. I suspect most people have those large black widescreen LCD rectangles. I too was going to get one of those years ago, waiting for LCD quality to improve. Then I realized - why bother? Most of the TV shows I like are 4:3 - and most are from the 50's to the ...
