Re: The Hotel Dick (6.5)
I like this episode, too. I hate the "Magnum needs to grow up" stuff, so I loved the ending of this episode. There are a couple of things that hinder my enjoyment of the episode, however. 1) The two guest actors who play the manager and the hooker act as though they are in a farcical comedy, while TM...

Re: R.I.P. Vincent McEveety (Director)
Anybody who directed 40 episodes of Simon & Simon and 45 episodes of Gunsmoke is ok in my book. "Charlie Noon" "The Noose" "Cleavus" and "The Jailer" are all standout episodes of Gunsmoke, imo.

1-4 felt real. 5-8 felt like the 80s.ConchRepublican wrote:1-4.
Not even a hesitation. There were some really good later episodes, but the first 4 seasons were fantastic and felt right.

Re: Surprised
How is it possible that someone can think that all of the tiny details of the original (team rings, the lads, Icepick etc) are worth bringing back, while simultaneously thinking that Higgins needs to be a young woman? I just have a hard time reconciling "I'm a huge fan of the show!" and "Let's rewri...

Re: Seasons 1-4 or Seasons 5-8
The beauty of episodic television is that you can ignore the crappy episodes. I agree with you that there was a big dropoff in quality over the years, but there are still some great episodes mixed in there too. I would have hated to miss out on Death and Taxes, Little Girl Who, Way of the Stalking H...

Re: Serious vs. Goofing off
I think this is one of the major flaws of the show. Some writers just can't get the balance right. The best episodes have the right balance - mostly serious, but with realistic funny moments at appropriate times. Then there are utterly stupid episodes - usually in the later seasons - where Magnum i...

Re: Magnum/Higgins Defining Moment
When I watched MPI on the TV 30 years ago, I was very focused on TM, now that I am older, I think that Higgins was the real star! Without Higgins the show would never have worked. As hard as it would be for me to see someone else playing TM, I think it would be i mpossible for me to see someone pla...

Re: Other Actors / Guest Stars
Thanks! I think the original guy was a lot scarier looking than Elisha Cooke. He looked like a plucked vulture in a steam bath. Did a quick Google search and found a video of an interview Walter Chotzen gave to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum: https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog...
