Re: Resolutions (2) (8.13)

I would like to be fully able to comment on this episode but the channel showing it here in the UK, ITV4, decided to finish it’s run of Magnum PI with Resolutions Part 1 – if proof were ever need of the idiocy of TV channel programmers. So annoying, so I had to come here to moan about it ! So 8 yea...

Re: Transitions (8.11)

I agree generally, although it took a while for Manetti to get the Rick character, I think. Manetti even commented that after the “Bogey Rick” character from the pilot was dropped, along with the night club, he wasn’t given much if any direction on the character. Yeah you're right there - of the ma...

Re: Transitions (8.11)

charybdis, Thank you - or should I say 'ta' - for your most enlightening post! I'm so glad an excellent actor like John Hillerman put in the hard work getting the accent right. By the way I think Hillerman would have been a hoot as yet another of Higgin's half brothers, an ocker from beyond the bla...

Re: Transitions (8.11)

charybdis, May I ask your opinion of John Hillerman's accent, does it work for you as an Englishman? Or do you sometimes hear his Texas accent come through? I always thought John did a terrific job, but hey I'm from Jersey and have enough problems speaking the mother tongue myself. Not the Isle of ...

Re: Transitions (8.11)

My first viewing of this episode and it was ok; I quite like Luther Gillis and his smart repartee yet I found the plot a bit clumsy and disjointed. I noticed further up this thread some one mentioned a Malcolm McDonald as “Super Mac”. Now I immediately thought of the Arsenal (an English football, so...

Re: Legend of the Lost Art (8.10)

Ugh - I thought after The love that lies it couldn’t get any worse but this one stunk to high heaven. Perhaps I’m getting increasingly curmudgeonly in my old age as I didn’t enjoy any of this one. Maybe a twenty something me would have liked this when it originally aired, but today ? Just, no, no, no!

Re: Unfinished Business (8.8)

My first watch of this some 36 years after it aired and I agree this must be a top 10 episode. The tone starts off relatively light, with TM pulling a shopping trip out of Higgins by a bit of bait and switch and then things going quickly south at the trial and then the jolt of the video. Selleck sh...

Re: The Great Hawaiian Adventure Company (8.9)

My latest season 8 first view and as noted by most the biker gang element of the plot seemed very unlikely, and to me it was unintentionally funny. This aside I could relate to TC and his troubles with a son who has run ins with the police. Other pluses are the plethora of beach babes and no Carol B...

Re: A Girl Named Sue (8.7)

This is another episode I’m seeing for the first time and after a gut load of Baldwin in the previous episode I was quite easy to please. Yes the plot looked a bit rehashed from time to time ( I still liked the thinking out loud from both PI’s while working on the case, namely “I know what you’re th...

Re: The Love That Lies (8.6)

When I saw this was a Baldwin-centric episode I was expecting not to like this one - AND I DIDN’T ! Total slush and mush lavished on the least likeable recurring character so I gave this one a “5” rating, the only time I’ve ever used the lowest rating. Aside from Higgins incredulity at TM washing th...

Re: Forever in Time (8.5)

Continuing my first time viewing of season 8 and this one came up tonight. Initially this had “Curse of the King Kamehameha club” vibes but then it went off on a left turn after that. TM’s high waisted trousers did make me chortle somewhat in the last act but I should remember this aired around 35 y...
