I never saw 24 during its original run, but I did watch all eight seasons on DVD. I love the show and am ecstatic that next May Jack is Back!

I don't think the original show is mentioned directly. Steve is the grandson of Jack Lord's character in the original, so it would be weird to do so.
Also, Steve was a Navy Seal.
