Re: Resolutions (2) (8.13)

Hmmm - I feel like the Virginia section is fairly complete (when I have caught it on syndication). Do any of the experts here know if it was cut significantly for syndication? I may have the original episode on vhs in a box somewhere - I am a bit curious now.

Re: Going Home (6.7)

I always liked this episode and felt it tied in well with the finale (which many did not seem to like very much either). I almost wish they would do a George Lucas/star wars retcon and have him list his brother joey when he and Higgins are arguing on the beach in the mac's back episode. Just edit it...

Re: Home From the Sea (4.1)

"Death and Taxes" is very much a 4th of July episode because the events happen during that time and Magnum mentions that he likes to spend the 4th alone surfskiing. Hence why everyone is leaving him (Higgy, Rick, T.C.) so that he can be alone and finish his taxes. TM is alone at the end surskiing as...

Re: Home From the Sea (4.1)

Interesting I never think of Death and Taxes as a 4th of July episode, but if Die Hard is a Christmas movie, then Death and Taxes can be a 4th of July episode. The only other shows I can think of are the wonder years series finale and the original Bob newhart show had an episode centered around the ...

Re: Home From the Sea (4.1)

Hope you enjoyed. I try to watch it every 4th, but it usually ends up being every other. Coming up on the 40th anniversary of this episode in the fall.

Home from the sea with Limbo a close second - I guess I like the more serious episodes

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

I enjoyed this episode. It is funny to imagine people gathering around the tv on Thanksgiving night 1981 "Is that kolchak the night stalker?" - "I thought he was a pi - what is the mystery?" From a rating standpoint I would put it middle of the pack for this season, no "Dead Man's Channel" but solid...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

A little behind this week, finally watched this episode. Really liked it (might be the first time Ivan and I were aligned this season). I have a soft spot for episodes that I have not seen a million times, and this episode fit the bill. I was genuinely surprised when it was the younger cop that kill...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

I thought this episode was ok for a Magnum (still better than most shows). Magnum's complete disbelief that the woman might like Higgins was a bit out of character, but I also thought Higgins not having any doubt was also a bit much. The overall scheme/payoff was a bit of a letdown. In total (if you...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

Thanks Pahonu - maybe we are distant relatives. I think I have heard you have an affinity for the 1970s Pirates. Small world - the 79 team at 3 rivers were some of my first baseball games.

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

but slightly below the Russian pilot and dead Man's Channel. Say whaaaat??? This episode (basically a feature film, with the emotional gut punch to match) is peaks and mountains above the 4 episodes that preceded it and everything else that follows this season. It's simply the best episode ...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

I like this episode. It really puts some of the main pieces of Magnum lore into motion. Michelle gets called back throughout the series (off the top of my head - home from the sea, echos of the mind and naturally this episode paves the way for little girl who). Ranking the season I would put this on...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

Enjoyed this episode, definitely had not seen it in a long time (30+ years). While there were some very big plot holes/stretching of credibility - it held my interest and I did not remember the conclusion of the episode. Rating this season, I put this episode just behind dead Man's Channel, currentl...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

I used to really enjoy Hawaii 5-0. It was a bit before my time, but ran in syndication for 2 episodes on Sunday nights back in the late 80s and was also on at 4pm on wor (via cable) around the same time. It was a 2 part wofat (please forgive spelling) rerun that hooked me around 1987. I have never g...

Re: 40th Anniversary Watch Party

Season 2 is off to a slow start. I liked Dead Man's Channel, but was not wild about this episode. Seeing it around Halloween was fun (catching on syndication it is hard to know when it aired). The biggest disconnect for me was the bad guy at the end, dressing Lisa in the outfit and then making drivi...
