Re: The Rockford Files

While not insane asylums, there are a number of TV shows in which the hero is locked up in a windowless white room, drugged, brainwashed, or otherwise driven to the edge of madness. Mannix had a great S8 episode A Word Called Courage ! which guest starred the great Anthony Zerbe and was directed by ...

Re: Mannix

Jerry Goldsmith and Mannix composer Jerry Fielding imo did some of their best work for TV. On Mission: Impossible, Fielding even managed to sound like himself while simultaneously creating cues adhering to the musical template initiated by Lalo Schifrin.

Re: The Rockford Files

Watched The Competitive Edge (S04 E19) the other day. For whatever bizarre reason, I have no memory whatsoever of having seen this one! This despite having owned the DVDs for years. In it, Jim ends up locked up in an insane asylum straight out of One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest , which had won the Be...

Re: The Rockford Files

The Rockford Files' Stuart Margolin has died, age 82.

https://nypost.com/2022/12/13/actor-stu ... ead-at-82/

For the few of us here who like The Rockford Files, Margolin's Angel Martin character was maddening, frustrating, but ultimately endearing.

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

I downloaded, er, came across the first season of Cannon. Difficult to watch cause the quality is mainly for watching on a 19" tube tv just like in the oldn' days. 480i on a big screen isn't nostalgic to me. Talk about artifacts... Seeing as you illegally downloaded season one and are still Boomer ...

Re: Cannon (1971-76)

I'm halfway through season 2 and so far my favorite episode is The Rip-Off . George Maharis has never been better as a criminal who has nearly everything in Cannon's apartment stolen. The stellar cast includes Stephanie Powers, Max Gail, Kathleen Freeman, and Robert Mandan (who plays a good guy for ...

I downloaded, er, came across the first season of Cannon. Difficult to watch cause the quality is mainly for watching on a 19" tube tv just like in the oldn' days. The Cannon DVD transfers look to be the same wonderfully-washed-out syndicated prints from decades ago, so they look exactly as I remem...

Re: The Now Playing Thread!

I've been in a huge British mood recently, and along with my obsessive Britcom viewing, there's also been my trip back to some music I haven't heard in years. "Substitute"- The Who 36IaekZtKsI Only Mick Jones of The Clash came close to replicating that "wounded" feeling often found in Pete Townsend'...

Re: Harry-O on Decades

We also have this Harry-O thread. I've thoroughly enjoyed the first-season episodes I saw many years ago. I see there are several episodes on the usual video outlets...time to investigate. It's surprising that Harry-O didn't catch on, even with the considerable competition in the P.I.TV show landsca...

Re: Mannix

After graduating high school in 1989, I remember riding my bike around the olde childhood neighborhood and noticing how there were none of the younger kids out and about like how my generation used to be. It was a blast of cold water to the face how things had changed and continue to be. It's refres...

You're slipping in middle age, Ivan! Roger is the one shooting at Bernie Casey and later getting curb stomped by same later in the trailer.

Re: Mannix

Well, Two-Face is one of the most tragic/tortured and sombre villains in the world of Batman. Nothing at all like the clown that Tommy Lee Jones played in BATMAN FOREVER. Aaron Eckhart was much closer in THE DARK KNIGHT. But the ultimate Two-Face was of course in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES in the ...

Re: Obscure Movie Recommendations

The one thing I remember about The Duke's other cop movie, Brannigan , is his exchange with Richard Attenborough(?) Attenborough: "So how's the world's second-greatest navy?" [referring to the US navy] Duke: [Chuckling] "You oughta know!" [referring to the British navy] As for McQ , Al Lettieri was ...

Re: Mannix

And of course as the cackling villain in the MANNIX episode. Soeaking of cackling villains, The Joker has already been mentioned as it relates to Clu's great performance in his Mannix appearance. In addition to that, I've had two friends who said--decades apart and who didn't know one another--that...
