Perhaps Tom Selleck can be in the next Star Trek Movie as Admiral Thomas Magnum XXIII.

Actor Chris Pine who plays James T Kirk in the new Star Trek Movie is the son of actor Robert Pine, best known to us as Thomas Sullivan Magnum III, dad of our favorite hero.

Heres a thought I had about what might be interesting: If you have to have a new cast, set it in 1971 or 72 in Vietnam. That way you avoid having to cast Higgins, who IMO is the hardest to cast.


What did TM do between Vietnam and 1979 - he stayed in the Navy for a while right?

I always assumed that he considered Magnum quality TV. The Class was "Television and the Contemporary Mind." The prof referred to it as a class in Visual Rhetoric. He believed that Visual rhetoric should be (especially in this day and age) considered at the same level as verbal and written rhetoric....

I don't remember what I got on the paper. A- maybe. The Prof in turn directed me to the article "reflections on Magnum PI" which James has posted on this website somewhere.

I for one would be ok with a Matthew McConaughy movie. I a hundred times prefer an all original cast movie or tv movie or whatever, but I don't think its gonna happen. Hollywood never "got" MPI when it was on and TS has not become the Movie draw that the popularity of the series might have suggested...

I wrote a Magnum paper for my Communications class in College in 1989. It compared and contrasted the Episodes "Did you see the Sunrise." and "Going Home."

Theres a mustached manager here at work who is a big Tigers fan. Whenever he wears a Tigers hat in, I greet him with "Nice to see you again, Mr. Selleck."

I have this book. IMHO its not really fair to call it a "Bore" - though it would be to non magnum fans. I guess if your interested enough in Magnum to frequent this site, it would be worth a read and not dull. I also agree that I would rather have had a book by Selleck or Hillerman; By most accounts...

Holmes is where the Heart is seems like a non TS episode, and I for one am surprised there wasn't a few more of these types with minimal TS appearance, if only to give the man a break.

I found Holmes to be enjoyable, and occasional episodes very heavy on Rick, TC, or Higgins would have been OK by me.
