I just watched this last night. He had been in the water for over 20 hours when Rick got close enough to hear, he was delirious and exhausted he went under just yelling at the boat. What strength he had left was used to keep his head above water.

What stands out the most to me in this episode is that its the first in which Magnum wears his POW-MIA bracelet. It is theme with the episode and he will wear it for the duration of the series until season eights "Unfinished Business."

I think my favorite part of this episode is TM escaping to the guest house to enjoy watching a game and a chilidog in peace and quiet than she barges in and makes him go back haha he just drops his head in defeat and "surrenders" I think every married man in history can relate to that scene.
