Came across this the other day from Magnum, P.I. set director.
Poignant.
Apologies if already posted.
As far as the new Magnum show, it is the same producer / writer (showrunner) used for the new "5-0" as well as the new "McGyver." What concerns me about the new "Magnum" is the show being tied to the 80's as much as it was to Tom Selleck. Since neither are available, the show will be updated for the audience who they expect will watch it. We are no longer in that age group. As someone once told me, "Episodic TV is just filler between commercials." Crass as that may be, it is true. The show's success will be determined by viewership of the key demographic age group and that will determine what the advertising rates will be for commercials appearing during it's hour. Our watching or not watching will not affect the show. Higgin's is now a woman. Magnum will not have a mustache. The 80's are over.
Mahalo for your interest over the years,
Rick Romer
P.S. Somebody (all of us?) should save all his old pics of the set if/when anything happens to him. They might be gone forever.

I'll see if there's a way we can host them here.

That's awesome Conch.
Might need his permission though.
Was just thinking he must be gettin' up in years.
When he passes away his family may not continue the blog and all those amazing photos would disappear forever.
Would be a shame.

First I need to talk to JJ about it, I know he did something similar for Rubber Chickens Guide, then we'll see about contacting Romer.

SPOCK:
Is it possible ...that we two, you and I, have grown so old and so inflexible ...that we have outlived our usefulness?
Another Star Trek quotable. They never disappoint.

What's actually weird?
Said to my wife the other day... You notice almost ALL the commercials now feature 80s music. They must be targeting our generation now.
YET, when it comes to TV advertising and ratings, the view remains that they don't care about GenX.
Kinda strange and confusing. Do they care or don't they?

Rick Romer must be a traditionalist hater.

At this point, 80s music in commercials is just non-offensive earworm oldies. It's supposed to generate warm fuzzies or at least comfort, I think. For people who remember it when it came out, it's nostalgic. For younger folks, it's always been around.
Not sure what you mean about not caring about GenX... Who is "they"? Advertisers?
I get the sense that Generation X is going to have a bit of a moment in the coming decade. Being squished between boomers and millennials makes it hard to grab the spotlight!

A traditionalist hater sounds like someone who doesn't like traditionalists, so maybe the second one? You could ask him which he likes better, assuming he's been watching the show!
I saw a few pics on his flickr site, but not many? Is there a bigger trove somewhere?

Yes. They seem to be targeting our generation (GenX) in TV ads all the time...
Yet, TV industry
still goes with our generation not important (viewership) as far as advertisers are concerned.
Seems contradictory.

Probably just a matter of numbers... fewer GenX'ers (did I write that correctly?) than other groups. But that group is probably at about its peak earning power in the typical career cycle: not entry level and not retired.

Come on Amian. 3 more posts and you're a Fleet Admiral.
