Ratings . . .

Looks like you guys were onto something. The series took a big drop in viewers after the pilot, then a smaller drop after the 2nd episode, then episode 3 kicked up the channel changers again. What will the effects from last night be?

I didn't get to watch this week's ep (cbs.com failboated for me all night last night), but at this point I'm only tuning in to see how the train wreck ends.

I'm one of the people who stopped watching. If this ratings trend continues, I have to believe it will be cancelled. If so, will they let the season run it's course, or would they yank it?

There's precedent for canceling shows mid-season, but they have to be pretty bad to do that.

It's really too bad, because it could have been better.

I was just wondering what the first few weeks of ratings were for MacGyver or maybe even Hawaii 5-0, two other reboots. Maybe a comparison might give us a better indication of what will happen to this version of MPI.

Read the reviews . . . sounds like most of us.

I can't see this finishing a full season.

The other little detail is New Magnum is only 50% owned by CBS (with the other 50% belonging to Universal).

So that's 50% less reason to keep an expensive, underperforming show on the air.

For comparison sake, Five-0 and MacGyver are both 100% owned by CBS. Also, New MacGyver is shot in Atlanta, so it's a lower budget show, so it would be more acceptable to pull smaller viewer numbers.

The other data point to consider is the show Scorpion was only pulling something like 4.5 to 5 million viewers per episode in its fourth season (!) when it was cancelled. they expect better than that for a first season network show.

So I'm very curious to see what will happen to New Magnum. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get a full season order after this initial 13 episodes are produced with the numbers it's been pulling.

(On more personal note, I'm starting to think New Magnum was probably an expensive attaboy for Lenkov. The network have it a chance more for his sake than anything, as a thanks for producing two other somewhat successful shows for them.)

I will feel for the actors if it is cancelled. They were thrust into an almost impossible position by trying to replace an iconic show plus, the show is on Monday nights going against Monday Night Football, Dancing With The Stars (ugh) and has two god awful lead in shows.
I am fine with the show and am glad it sticks with one story line instead of having three or four stories jumping around ala Hawaii Five-O, is slowly developing the characters and every once in a while pays homage to the original .The biggest flub so far, Ken Jeong as Luther Gillis, he was awful! They need to put someone like Billy Gardell in the role and, they still actually could as the OG had returning actors playing different roles and a different Carol Baldwin in an early episode.
What if CBS cancelled the original after the drop in ratings when Cosby came on the scene? At least they had the good sense to switch the show from Thursday to Wednesday and not get rid of it, perhaps another night would be better. I don't watch McGyver so switch those two shows, and sandwich Magnum between H-50 and Blue Bloods...
Just my two cents from a huge OG fan that simply watches this show as a series and happy to not have another game, reality, talk or D-list celebrity competition show......

I'd rather watch a zip-popping show.

Well despite losing another 500,000 viewers they count it UP because key demo was up a bit.

I guess that means much more than 500,000 older views tuned out with increase in younger?

Not sure. Gets confusing.

But the bucks are with the younger viewers so who knows.
