Here's how I feel: I'm pretty sure its going to suck, but I'm going to watch and try to keep an open mind. But in truth, I feel like I've had a biopsy, and Monday at 8 I'm pretty sure the doctor is going to tell me its cancer.

I still can't get over how wrong this dude looks for the part. How short is he? Is he 5'6'' or so? Tom Cruise height??? With all the possible actors out there I can't imagine they thought he was the best one for the part. It's like he was the first one to walk through the door and Lenkov said "ok, you're hired!"

I'm still predicting that Perdita Weeks and Zachary Knighton are going to steal the show....

It just occurred to me that I had seen Zachary Knighton years ago in the 2007 remake of THE HITCHER (with Sean Bean replacing Rutger Hauer in the title villain role). As with all remakes it couldn't hold a candle to the original. Knighton played the C. Thomas Howell role in the remake. More than 10 years have passed now and Knighton has certainly put on some weight and aged since then. As for the other 3 I haven't seen them in anything and not familiar with them.

I did find it interesting that they have to explain the ring in the show. I thought from the beginning that young viewers would not understand the significance of the Croix de Lorraine and I wondered why they would even use it. It doesn't make any sense in the context of Afghanistan/Iraq anyway. They should have gone with something with a Middle Eastern connection. I see lots of veterans with Arabic (possibly other languages, I'm not sure) tattoos or things painted on their cars and trucks these days.

They're probably thinking something from the later 80s like MIAMI VICE or THE EQUALIZER or something else that's more gritty or brooding. They probably think HIGH QUALITY = GRIT. I think grit just for the sake of grit is boring. I like variety.

After reading the Magnum P.I. article by Kimberly Ricci, I wonder if she ever watched the show? I can agree with Kimberly on one point, I agree that PEAK TV was in the 80s, with a horrible slide downhill since. Magnum P.I. was one of the few TV shows at the time to take on very tough subjects, including the Service of the millions of American men and women, who served in Vietnam. Magnum P.I. showed veterans as everyday Americans, who answered the Nation's Call, when so many shows had such a horrid portrayal of these same men and women.

As one of those guys who had a very colorful career, I often found myself asking why I was doing, what I was. Being frequently shot at for $32,000 a year, made me ask myself that question time and again. When I heard Tom Selleck say: “Funny the things a man will do for a living...", I thought, how simple, yet eloquent words he had spoken. It was apparent to me, that someone had taken the time to speak to people like myself. Were all the depictions in Magnum correct, probably not. I can say, I found the show not only entertaining, but willing to take on many of the Nation's most difficult questions. That being said, my opinion, along with a $5 bill, will get a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
