Even if you aren't into watches, read the first part. It's what I hope the reboot crew gets right. In Tom Selleck's own words. :magnum:

I wish I hadn't read the article. Tom Selleck says, "I don’t do nostalgia."

So, basically, he moves with the times and doesn't look back. That's the complete opposite of the way I operate. I pick the best of whatever time and stick with that until something superior comes along (which doesn't happen very often).

I was just thinking about this again. If I was like Tom Selleck and "didn't do nostalgia", I wouldn't care one bit about Tom Selleck - because I would have moved on and now I would be thinking about some modern vacuous twit. I'd be interested in some modern lesbian reality star and her equally vacuous bi-sexual siblings. I'd say, "Tom who?" and if somebody said "Selleck", I'd say - "That's sooo '80's! Get with the times, dude!"

Same here, I'm sure he looks back on pics of his daughter with nostalgia but probably more concerning his roles, or career. I'm hoping those in charge of the reboot take his heed and don't make this new Magnum like he described what he didn't want. :)

Good read. I did read somewhere he donated a Pepsi to a charity auction. I know he also bought the newer Pepsi GMT in white gold, it can be seen in some of the Jesse Stone movies. I have also read he has several watches so I guess he might have more than one Pepsi.
I’ll say this, because of Magnum I developed a love for the Rolex GMT. Was finally able to purchase one a few years ago. It’s my favorite watch.

That's awesome! Selleck's performance in Home From the Sea got me into watches as a youngster. I bought one a few years ago but it didn't feel right. Plan to reward myself soon with a vintage model, from around when my son was born, for a milestone coming up. :)

EDIT: And I don't buy that he isn't nostalgic. Anyone could subtract three hours to get the time back home, but it takes a special man to get a watch that always point towards home :magnum:

I bought vintage, mine is actually a Coke from 1986 but I plan to get the Pepsi insert then I have the best of both worlds. Great things about vintage are usually the price (but with GMTs on the rise as they’ve been for a number of years this may not apply) and the fact it isn’t pristine, it’s already got small dings and scratches so I wasn’t obsessed with putting my first one on it.

It’s an awesome watch. I have a small collection of 10 watches, it’s my favorite by far. Get one when you can, you won’t regret it. I look at it this way, it’s a store of wealth, if needed I could sell it. Hopefully I’ll never have to.

Which model did you buy a few years ago?

Incidentally I have been thinking of setting my GMT hand to Hawaii time. Just for kicks.

I think it was a late 90's version. I'll likely get something similar again, I don't care for the newer cases and ceramic bezel inserts.

I like that idea, I have a world timer that I leave on Honolulu tie when I'm not traveling :)

That's quite the evolution sans nostalgia!
