TS was on Regis and Kelley this morning talking about the show. The co-host with Kelley today was Bryant Gumbel and they showed an old commercial Tom did for Close-up toothpaste as well as talked about a clothing store in Sherman Oaks that Tom worked at early in his career (Gumbel was a customer). He also mentioned that he and the director were discussing whether the character TS plays should have a mustache or not. TS thought he should be sans-mustache but thankfully he thought to ask CBS first. They said MUSTACHE.......Yes!!!!

Can't say I was awestruck by the Blue Bloods pilot episode. It held my interest and Donny Wahlberg was good, but Selleck is one-note in this, phoning in a Jesse Stone-like characterization--when he's even on screen--that's fine for Stone but I was hoping for something different with this show.

The case of the kidnapped girl was nothing exciting. It's more like something Law & Order and its multitude of clones would feature. I'm hoping that the policework would come second to the characters' interactions, because there is potential. The dinner table scene was good, despite the already-dated "shaky cam" technique that has me reaching for an imaginary railing. Why can't these film school grads keep the camera still and let the actors sell the story? It's hard to read the emotions on a performer's face with all that useless motion.

I have to agree with Little G's review. I thought it was okay and did think that Donnie Wahlberg was the stand out. I am getting tired of the one note, quiet man, patriartic performances that Selleck's roles have had lately (can you say A.J. Cooper). I will give it a few more tries to see where the "Blue Templar" story line goes but for my money if you are a Magnum, pi fan then the new Hawaii 5-0 seems to have captured the crime/action chock full of humor formula..........

This is the first time I've ever been disappointed by a Tom Selleck performance. And I've seen "Daughters Of Satan".
I'll stick with it for a while, but agree that it seems TS phoned it in, and it's Jesse Stone crossed with A.J. Cooper. This plays great with Jesse Stone, but What happened to TS's range?
I'm a huge TS fan, and will watch just about anything he's in. But, I was disappointed. I was hoping for better. I know TS has it in him.
The kidnapping story line seemed weak, and the focus on family interaction just wasn't there. It needs to get a lot better.

I didn't think Selleck's performance was bad - he did a good job. But the overall writing was horrible and the acting from some of the others was just plain poor. This show has a lot of room to get better.
