More MGI

If you haven't followed the posts from the "MGI Has Died and Gone to Heaven" post, I've added a couple of more days to the Roaming MGI blog.

Remember it's in reverse chronological order, so to start from the beginning (or wherever you left off), go to the bottom and then move up the blog to take it in proper daily sequence.

And I STILL haven't gotten to Sunday and Michael. Heck, I haven't even gotten to SATURDAY! But that IS coming. Never will I stay somewhere that DOESN'T have good wireless internet service so I can do this day by day! There ARE some vacation priorities, right?

Great reports golf! Love the writing, love the pictures! And I love the little ranch pad you guys found. That really looks like a great place to stay.

Kinda surprised you didn't say "hi" to the couple at Robin's Nest, however. I think some eye contact with a smile, and a "Maaaaaaagnuuuuuuum" shout out, was in order there. ;)

I would have said "Hi Guys" followed by an eyebrow wiggle.

Thanks again, James, for your kind words. I sincerely appreciate them.

I seem to be slightly bolder with words when I have a typewriter keyboard in front of me! In person, I'm hesitant to approach strangers for fear of invading their privacy. I'll respond enthusiastically and carry on a conversation at the drop of a hat -- if someone approaches me first.

As I reconstruct the trip, I'm thinking of a LOT of things I should have done while I was there :( , so I'll attribute them to MGI's regrets and post 'em there. Then everyone here can use that as a "how to" guide for his/her/their trip.

Geez Golf, what if it had been someone from the board? Could have been my wife and I (I wish). That would have been a missed oppertunity.

By the way, did you get the chance to drive past Omega Station while on Oahu? That's one MPI location I'd like to visit.

Mike,

If it had been anyone from here, don't you think we all would have known that someone else other than me was there at the same time I was? Don't you think we all would have been told there was someone else who could be available to verify the "treasures" with me or for me if I couldn't? I don't see anyone from here being there at that time and NOT wanting to see them (even if they had to put up with me!). Of course, it COULD have been a member here who DIDN'T tell us he/she would be there so he/she WOULDN'T have to deal with me.

What's Omega Station? I'd say we didn't get there, as I don't even know what it is (forgive my ignorance, please, and just educate me). The only real MPI places I saw were the tidal pool, the Makai pier, Pali golf course, Kualoa Ranch, the Makapu'u ("Legs") lighthouse (from a distance), Pali tunnels, airport (duh!) -- because we could go by these places without my having to tell Larry I wanted to see them because they were a shooting location. He's watched the show enough with me that he enjoyed seeing the tidal pool (though he probably still won't admit that), but he did not want a "visit the shooting locations" vacation.

In the long run, the tidal pool is really the Holy Grail, so if that had been all I had been able to see, that would have been pretty much okay. But to get THERE, you have to go by others.

So, okay, in retrospect, speaking to the other MPI fans at the gate is what I should have done and one of the things I regret that I didn't do, OKAY??

First off, Omega Station is the building used in a few episodes for location shoots, most notably in J. Digger Doyle as the home of the fictional "Lazeronics". It is also the transmitting station for the antennaes that the Haiku Stairs [note TM carrying Higgins up the stairs after his rescue from the bad guys] were built for. It was also used in "Lost" I'm told although I've never seen the show. It's quite understandable that you'd not have visited it. Even with the new free way that runs through Haiku Valley, Omega Station is still rather hard to get to. As for not talking to the other people at the gate, that's quite understandable as well. I was just thinking of ships passing in the night. It would have been a shame if it was someone from the board. I'm sure you're right, if it were they'd most likely have mentioned here that they were going to Oahu. I think if my wife and I ever did make it she'd be quite tired of visiting the MPI locations. I guarentee if I weren't at the tidal pool, I'd be at or looking for some other location the entire time. She'd be rolling her eyes at me the whole trip. She likes MPI, even does a pretty good Higgins impression, but she doesn't have the all out passion for it that I do.

I had a feeling that was what you are talking about.

Interesting that you would want to see that place. Of all the gorgeous shooting locations, you want to go to a power station?

Chacun à son gout . . . . Silly me, I just like the beaches and the waterfalls and the mountains and the . . . . .

Well, you have to take it in the context of wanting to see all the MPI locations. :D

I think the only person who has seen ALL of the filming locations is Tom Selleck! (and, oh, yes, rubberchicken virtually . . . . .)

Another day posted on the MGI blog -- the tidal pool photo op day.

I FINALLY got the report written for the visit with Michael and the viewing of the treasures:

MGI

It took me so long because I was linking pictures from the episodes to help with identifying some of the items seen (that I could find a picture for). James, I hope it's okay if I used some pictures from the episode guides here. The only picture I couldn't find was one of the two helicopters hovering side by side over the koi pond in front of the Byodo In Temple in Part 2 of "Did You See the Sunrise?" to place beside my picture of the pond. I swear I've seen that picture somewhere recently, but I can't find it now. If anyone has a picture, please post it (or a link to it) so I can edit the blog to add it.

Please feel free to let me know what you think of MGI's latest literary, photographic, and html endeavor.

golf - you may have been thinking of the picture of that scene from my GE project. Placemark 3.2 - "Port side, buddy."

That picture is here. You can edit that as needed or even use the thumbnail if that's suitable.
