I have a theory that the entire Magnum and Michelle storyline came straight from Casablanca.
Thoughts?

I had never thought about that but it is very possible. :)

Spell it out for me. I see some very loose similarities but it wasn’t clearly go with the safe guy vs the passionate but dangerous one plot line, was it?

The easiest way for me to put it is as follows:
Victor Laslow was Hue
Ilsa was Michelle
Rick was Magnum.

I'll buy that theory, and I have a similar theory: Frank Reagan (Blue Bloods) is based on Jesse Stone, and was specifically written for Tom Selleck.

Believe it or not, I've never seen a single episode of Blue Bloods.

Agreed, there were a LOT of similarities, aside from Orville wanting to be known as "Rick" to "Rick's Cafe Americain" and his DJ "Sam" in the pilot episode "Don't Eat the Snow in Hawai'i".

I had forgotten about Sam.
From what I've read, Bellisario is a huge fan of Casablanca.

Agreed! As much as I enjoyed several KKC episodes, I always wonder how much cool underworld stuff could have been included if Rick had kept the club. No need for the Bogey schtick, but Sam could have stayed!

There was a club here in Long Beach in the 80’s and 90’s called Bogart’s. It was right across the marina from where I live now, though I wasn’t as close then. They had this cool mural in the lobby from Casablanca. Some pretty big names performed there, like Nirvana, Offspring, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, No Doubt, Sublime, Stray Cats, Devo, and many more.

(Casablanca has to be the greatest movie imho.) Yes, I've seen similarities too. Michelle assumed her husband was dead before she married TM, husbands were involved in clandestine operations, Michelle, TM, and Rick and Ilsa have to put their love aside for the greater good...
Oh yeah, definite similarities.
