I haven't received them yet, but I thought people here would appreciate JQH being included!

I was only familiar with the term morale patches in the context of military units. I had no idea they were referred to as such in the context of pop culture such as a TV show. Live and learn.

I still don't think I quite understand what they are. Can someone explain?
It looks like they're pretty well executed artistically, at least!

I agree with you, I feel like Tom Hanks in Big . . . but La Bulle is still on my side.
Morale patches are something to attach to the velcro on your gear (backpack, body armor, jacket, etc.) Usually, it's something humorous or something to raise morale of the people that see it.
I joined the navy as a mid-life crisis, so I'm a little older than most of my colleagues. Side note: I turned one of my "VMO-2 DaNang" hat patches into a morale patch for my backpack by attaching velcro. I once had a youngster I work with ask if I had been to DaNang. I explained it was from a TV show from before he was born.

Wow, very cool. Are you still serving in the Navy?

Thanks very much for the explanation. I’m left wanting to know more about your Navy experience!

Yes.
I started with four years as a reservist and have now been on active duty eight years.

Sure!
I started at Camp Lejeune, then Bethesda for residency.
Currently I’m the Dental Department Head on a West Coast-based aircraft carrier. It’s my favorite assignment so far.

Are you in Washington or San Diego, if you don’t mind me asking? I have a friend in logistics attached to the Carl Vinson out of North Island.

I’m in Bremerton, Washington.
I spent a little time in North Island this summer when I joined the ship. I’d like to go back one day.

Very nice! Puget sound is beautiful. I have another friend, not in the service, who lives near Lake Union in Seattle. Hope you get to visit San Diego again. My Navy friend lives in Balboa Park, just a short commute to North Island. He has a sailboat moored there and we’ve had lots of good times aboard.

Before I looked at the patches I kinda thought of Office Space and the Flair (IIRC) You were supposed to wear while at work at the diner
