Magnum Mania!

An idea kinda hit me out of nowhere for a thread subject here on my absolutely, positively favorite website forum. Let's imagine that we have the opportunity to fill Higgins' study with books. We've already unpacked all of Higgins' favorite encyclopedia sets, so what we need to focus on are just books. I thought it might be a little fun to throw titles up on the forum that we would want to have in that wonderful and famous study. No limit to the amount. Who better to know what needs to go up on the shelves than such great fans of the show?

To start things off, here are some of my selections. I included Amazon links just for fun, but no one think that they have to. I say everyone just toss any ideas they might at all have up here and let's see what people suggest. Hope this is kinda fun!

I agree on some of these, James, but others don't fit with what I imagine Higgins appreciating (noting, of course, that he is not the author of sleazy Robin Masters novels!).

Oh, I don't know Styles. I'd like to think that 'ol Higgy Baby had a diverse taste in the classics of literature, especially British works. I could see him enjoying all of those books. We know he read Raymond Chandler ("Round and Around") so I could see him reading almost anything.

I agree, I would think that a man like Higgins so well versed on many different subjects would indeed have a wide range of interests and an appreciation for great writing. We need to include some Hemingway on the list (IMHO)...

Higgins' study? Isn't that study filled with Robin Masters' books? (and no, I don't buy into the "Higgins-is-Robin-Masters" shtick)

Hi guys,

I would expect a collection of Arthur Conan Doyle , to include The Lost World, The Conan Doyle Stories and particularly the Sherlock Holmes novels.

I would also expect some Jane Austin novels. Though its likely Higgins would not admit openly to reading these, we do know he was a romantic behind the stuffy exterior.

True! Maybe I'm not giving him enough credit for branching out. He could surprise you at times...but I still think of him as a stodgy colonialist...Kipling and the like.

You OUTED me! I've not jumped into the "Is Higgins Robin Masters debate?" just yet, but I am afraid I might have unintentionally let my opinion slip. Good catch there! LOL!

I will suggest Hemingway's "To Have and Have Not" to throw onto the book shelves, just because it's my favorite Hemingway book. Loving the suggestions offered so far.

A great (non-book) example of Higgins surprising the heck out of me was his mentioning his love of Blues music! Way to go, Higgy Baby!

Yeah, the whole "Higgins is Robin" thing is hands down my least-favorite aspect of the show, but for those of us who don't accept that tacked-on element (or "conspiracy theory" of Thomas'), at least we have series evidence that points in the opposite direction!

BTW, the contributions to the library have been outstanding and imo right on target! I'm also pleased at the amount of books listed I've actually read, and anyone wanting to be like "Big Hig" will get quite an education.
