Has anyone ever compiled a LIST OF LESSONS from "How To Be A World Class Private Investigator" throughout the entire TV Series?

Does anyone know which episodes TM talks about lessons in his book?

Hi S.M.,
Good question.....I don't think anyone has made up a list.
That would be a great edition to the Lists section!

YES!
This would be superb - anyone know any of them off the top of your head? I remember the gist of one about tailing someone but not the specifics.

There are number in "40", as if you recall, TM is making a "documentary" about being a private investigator.

Talks about being on stake outs and having to look "inconspicuous" while sitting in your car for hours on end, among other things.

Don't forget about "Murder 101" where TM is actually conducting a college course on being an "investigator"!

Those are just a couple off the top of my head, should be a fairly long list after everybody that remembers a segment lists it here! :)

There are so many episodes with them, too hard to list them.

Great idea though, do it! :)

The first time he mentions it is in Tropical Madness isn't it? (Now I've got two reasons to re-watch that ep - this and to see Higgins' 'ravishing speech' :) )

From Season 2.7 Tropical Madness

His first entry for the series - 'Two Rules on How to Tail a Car'

1. "the first is 'when you choose a nondescript car for tailing, don't pick one so nondescript it's obvious.'

2. "the second is 'don't get so busy tailing you forget to look behind you' (these yo-yos had no idea I was behind them)"

Courtesy of the Episode Guide!

On Face Value 4.19

When I write my book on being a first class private investigator, Rule Number 168 is going to be: "If you're getting chased, you should be in a fast car". Postscript to Rule 168: "No matter how fast your car is, there can always be one that's faster. (Narration)

&

Skin Deep 6.1

Magnum makes his first reference to writing a book on how to be a world-class private investigator - Page 1, "Investigate the crime scene".

(Though the ref from Tropical Madness would predate this one)

I've always wanted to do this to see them all together. Thanks for the initiative. I'll make a note next time I notice one.

Ooooohhh, what a great idea! I will keep my eye open as I watch season seven and eight bit by bit. Sure I will start my lunch-time Magnum PI loop all over again when I finish, so I will look for Magnum's "how-to" pointers. I also think any such list needs to have a introduction penned by none other than Luther Gillis to go along with it. How fun!

From the ending of "Laura", (ep.7.18), TM's narration about being a private investigator, on the video he is making for his nephew Billy, to take to school for show and tell:

"One thing about being a private investigator is, you can't really go out and look for work...you have to wait for the client to come to you. Sometimes they find you in the yellow pages, sometimes they hear about you from a friend and sometimes they just kind of stumble across ya. It doesn't really matter how they find ya I guess...the important thing is that they find ya.

Now you probably think that every case I take is really an exciting one...well...tell ya the truth, there are some cases you forget the day after you finish them and there are others you'll probably never forget."

Kind of late in the series, but that's where I'm at right now.

Almost time to start over again!LOL
