Why Did TC Wear Suspenders And A Belt At The Same Time?

Have you noticed that TC in many of the episodes wore both a belt and suspenders at the same time. Why was this? Was this some sort of fashion statement that I missed during the 80's?

Sure, didn't you ever see Mork & Mindy? ...

But seriously, I don't know. Maybe T.C. could never find any pants that fit him well, so, just to be sure, he used "double protection" - a belt and suspenders. ;)

Nice point about Mork and Mindy. At least TC never wore a suit backwards.

IslandHopper, it's because TC is the funkiest cat on the islands. No question.

Anyway- someone had to give Magnum some competition when he was wearing his loud Hawaiian shirts.

To answer your other question, there was no particular fashion or fad that I can recall that required use of both suspenders and a belt. I don't even recall that suspenders were any particular fad, but wearing them wouldn't have caused comment. If your slacks were too short, or you wore white socks with anything other than sneakers, that would've cause comment, but suspenders -- even with a belt -- did not get you labeled as a dork.

The suspenders held up his pants and his pants held up his belt and the belt held the suspenders down and the pants up. I think...

I think Waltstaz's explanation is the best and most practical! I got a real chuckle out of it!

Archeology post time . . .

My godfather has this saying "never trust a man wearing both suspenders and a belt". I guess he never met Theodore Calvin!

T.C. is a pilot...belt AND suspenders = redundant back-up systems. All pilots can relate to that.

Sound advice. You can't trust a man that doesn't trust his own pants.
