It's kind of hard to see the details, It kind of looks like a owl or bear over the P & S on the Coops logo. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. :)

I always thought it had to do with Coor's beer! Since they couldn't use that, they used a p instead of an r. If you look at the later bottles, the labels look just like Coor's labels!

Look at the 4th image he posted. There is clearly a cartoon bird over the "S" of the word Coops. Also this isn't an altered Coors label. The P wouldn't fit. And the overall badge shape of the entire label is wrong.

Google; Magnum P.I. Set Decorator: Logo's, Brand Names, Art Works, Legal... The set decorator explains all! Read it all the way down, the set decorators comments also1 It explains Coop's and Coor's!

And if you look at the labels in later seasons, they do look like Coor's! That's why I always bought Coor's longnecks!

Of course, there is a Coors/Coops connection, but the early bottles don't look anything like Coors branding (except the italic script Coops).

Romer's comments come in response to a question from Magnum Mania forum member Selleck Lover (sadly not around here much any more). It gives a bit of info, but not too much.

SelleckLover says: Thanks for clarifying regarding using logos and brand names. There has been much discussion about this on the Magnum-Mania web site, i.e. "Coops" beer, etc. There has also been much discussion about the music, along those same lines.

Romer responds: Because the actors touched the beer bottles (I didn't make up these rules!), they were considered props so Rick Dineri took care of these. Fake brand names usually had to run by the legal / clearance department. I doubt that they would allow "Coops" beer today or they could expect a lawsuit from Coors. I mean did anyone look at Coops Beer and not think Coors? That's just the way it was.

So it looks like Rick Dineri is your man for further information. Not much info on him on the 'net. but it seems he may be working in Hawaii: http://magnumdecorator.blogspot.ch/2009 ... orgot.html

To me, Magnum has always been, a state off mind, a way to live life! While I've tried to copy things, I know there are some things I will never have. That is why I've drank Coor's longnecks, wore Scott Hawaii Thongs, bought that Sir Jac jacket, had a pair of cheap sunglasses for years that look so much like his, it dosen't matter! I've bought some things for fun over the years, a ring, a Ralph Lauren blue polo, with a yellow horse, the web belt, a pair of surf ski goggles(Julbo), Pumas! My point is, Coop's beer isn't real! It would be fun to have some, But Coor's longnecks are the way to go! Just check out the labels in later seasons!

I think Brian was just trying to do the original label for fun. At least that was my understanding.

I agree - that's the impression I was under, too.

I wasn't talking about anyone making labels. I was talking about my first impression years ago, about the label and Coor's! Some people saw it, some didn,t! Mainly it was directed at the post by 'Ironfist'. I still haven't seen any comments on the labels that were used later on!
