So it's Larry Carlton who plays the Magnum P.I. theme?

Would that then mean that the likely Magnum P.I. guitar is a Gibson ES-335?

Hi Danno,

It's definitely Larry Carlton on the LP Version of the Magnum P.I. theme song. Not 100% sure it's him on the original Mike Post theme song (from late Season One onward), but more than likely it is. Carlton collaborated with Mike Post on several other theme songs as well.

One of the all-time great guitarist for sure. Not familiar with a whole lot of his Jazz output, but his work on Steely Dan's The Royal Scam, in particular his solo on "Kid Charlemagne", is amazing!

Thanks, James. I think I'll have to get some of his stuff!

Have loved Larry Carlton forever! Amazing musician who made an amazing recovery some years back when someone came to his door and shot him.

Love his all time favourite Sleepwalk!

I can't believe someone tried to kill him!
Horrific!

I ended up getting his album Sapphire Blue which has some damn fine Jazz/Blues on it. Beautiful tone.

Larry also played a great solo in the theme song for Barney Miller.
