Living "The Life"

Tell your stories of similarities in your live to that of Magnum pi.

I once lived on an Estate rent free and drove a red sports car.... yeah it was pretty sweet! I can explain...

My life at the time (Mid 1990's) was kind of a mix between Rick and Thomas... I was the Manager of a private club (The Local Yacht Club) and lived on an large Estate owned by a very wealthy person.

The Estate was Located in Chester Nova Scotia, Canada... Beautiful in the Summer ;)

I drove a little Red Fiero, however the owner of the estate had a Ferrari Testasossa that his son drove when he was in town.... sweet ride, I got to sit in it one time.

My girlfriend ran the Horse Stables and we lived on the estate rent free. It was really nice and I have good memories of that time. Now if only we could arrange something like that in Hawaii....

I have a moustache (my first one), often wear a baseball hat or Ray-Ban aviator, I like beer and movies from Agatha Christie's novels.
That's all. Too bad!

Viet Nam Vet.......Nope, but I did have to register for the draft in 1972 and go throught two draft lotteries......

A strapping 6'4" with brown wavy hair, mustache and dimples....Nope, but I am 6'2" with a weak imitation of his mustache and grey wavy hair........
Hairy Chest.....Nope, maybe half of what he is sporting.

Living on an estate and driving a Red Ferrari.....Nope

Wait a minute, I have way too many times over the years had TM's financial status..........

"Seven bucks...I knew that Ferrari wasn't his" :D
Goofy laugh and a hairy chest (which luckily for my wife actaully likes on a man although alot of women today don't..seen too many shaved ones. I sport the trimmed hairy chest and abs look, decent build still 5'11" and 195 LBS unfortunately having German and Scottish anscestory does hell in trying to get a tan..if people went to the beach with me they'd need sunglasses not for the sun but from the glare off my white hide!LOL 8)

Just got back from Oahu where I swam the Waikiki Roughwater Swim. I realize magnum never swam the event in the show, but it's something I'm sure the character would have done. I was initially disappointed with my 49th out of 62 age group placement, but then realized how Magnum-like that was. :D

Also, In 1983 I started playing volleyball largely due to Magnum. By 1985 I was my high school team captain. After high school I became one of the better beach players in the state of Florida. Unfortunately, I stopped playing in about 1989 to take life more "seriously". I remember the buzz on the beach after "Legacy From a Friend" aired because of the appearance of the great Sinjin Smith. Anyway, I wasn't a very confident kid until I found success through volleyball, thanks to Magnum.

My life in no way resembles Magnum's, in that I am female, was married at age 21--had 2 children by the time I was 25, worked full time in a factory for 15 years, drove a Honda Civic (I have owned 4 so far), lived near the beach (still do!), but almost never had time to go there. :D

Ii worked for an owner of a security guard company who paid for the apt I lived in for 8 yrs. (I just realized the coinidence.)
Drove a Fiero that I bought when I worked for the security company.
I was Navy Reserves for 12 yrs as an MA (navy's version of MP) and got an MIA bracklet the day I joined. I was then deployed to the mid east where my nickname was "Magnum" as I had the moustache, hairy chest and wavy hair. Because of the nick, I had the French Croix ring made there and bought a GMT watch at a Rolex store in Dubai.
After leaving the security company, I joined a police dept and did 15 yrs on a SWAT team which I left last year (2009).

That's awesome. I think if it were a competition, you'd certainly be in the lead so far!

I have virtually nothing in common with Thomas Magnum other than a fondness for beer, very little money, and a Rolex (it's a Submariner though - I prefer it to the GMT). Working on the beach thing though. I really want to live near the ocean at some point in my life. Now I'm stuck in a landlocked country!

Wow. Some amazing stories out there.

Magnum is a source of inspiration to get out and get active!

Beach jogging is probably the most TM like thing I'm into... We have excellent beaches in Sydney... I don my Tigers cap and my wife and I run as often as possible. We're training for a half marathon coming up in May as well- will be just happy to finish it!

I've swum in the tidal pool at the Anderson Estate too... :D

I also have a pair of short shorts... Does that count?
