Magnum Mania!

(My apologies if this has been discussed before. A quick search yielded a whole ton of topics, but none specific to this subject, at least not that I saw)

I'm sure most of you guys know about the 1981 action figure and ferrari made by LJN, and I've seen them go for ridiulous amounts of money on Ebay. Why is this? Very limited distribution, or simply because it doesn't get much cooler than a genuine official Magnum figure? Anyone here have one?

Would this be considered one of the "Holy Grail" items in Magnum collecting?

This also begs the question: Why no full-blown action figure line back in the day? How cool would Higgins, TC, and Rick figures be? How about a Robin's Nest playset, and TC's chopper vehicle?

I remember that from back in the day... but the LJN figures were TERRIBLE. You wouldn't have to do anything to them and the things would break.

They weren't like the GI Joe 3.5 inch figures.

I wasn't very hard on my Gi Joes, so if the LJN figures broke on me, they HAD to stink.

I had the A-Team "camping" set... well it wasn't camping, but they had a rubber raft and a tent. I still remember the first time i tried to put a gun in Mr. T's hand and his thumb broke off.

Needless to say, 6 year old Doc was NOT pleased.

I'm sure if you could find a functioning Magnum replica, it would be pretty cool!

As for why not have a Magnum action figure line?

(And Lar, this is in NO WAY meant to be a flame/attack or anything negative... just my personal opinion... but hear me out)

A Higgins action figure?!!!!

Although... as I write it, A kung fu grip... two attack dog accessories... a pistol... Father Paddy/Elmo/Don Luis masks ala Zartan from GI Joe.

I retract my request... that could be SWEEEEET!

The artwork on that box is actually quite good, IMO.

I have a figure of Bo Duke from 'The Dukes of Hazzard' made by the same company, that uses the same body (in different colours) and just has a different head.

Oh, and Doc, I had 'The A-Team's camp set too (well I would, ahem! hehe). These were made by Galoob but pretty similar. They must have made it with a weak plastic, because similar to you, the hand of my Hannibal broke off! Worse still, he had a different design body to the regular Hannibal figure in the range and was pretty uncommon.
My Dad tried to glue the hand back on for me, but it was never a great success.

Also... going back to the 'Dukes', there was a Boss Hogg action figure, so maybe a Higgins figure wouldn't have been that odd after all!!

Hummm, bolts in the shoulders, and a hole in the back. What would Magnum G.I. think of this?

Maybe that was the surgically repaired Magnum. The ferrari doesn't look too bad though.

I never saw this . . . it's fantastic!!!!

They could have used a different picture for the box though, TM was never know for hisawesome martials arts abilities. Aside from occasionally being on the receiving end, that is.

I had an idea. Take a Ken doll, paint a moustache above his lip, craft a Hawaiian shirt for him and paint Barbie's corvette red. The hard part would be in creating a Detroit Tigers hat.

I got an idea for an action figure. Ivan with a miniature bullet hole in his head!

LOL sure, why not? Could come with little miniature lads and everything!

(Higgins had to be the favorite of some kid, right? Right?)
