Hollywood "Tough Guy Poll" from IMDB:
U.S. TV hero MacGyver has beaten Buffy The Vampire Slayer and 24's Jack Bauer to the top of a new TV action heroes poll.
The role, which Richard Dean Anderson played for seven years from 1985, has topped the new countdown in America's TV Guide magazine.
Also making the top 10 are Tom Selleck's Magnum, P.I., Xena: Warrior Princess and Alias heroine Sydney Bristow.
The top five is:
1. MacGyver
2. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
3. Jack Bauer
4. Sydney Bristow (Alias)
5. Magnum P.I.
Beaten out by Buffy the vampire slayer?
I liked MacGyver well enough back in the day, but he was hardly a "tough guy". That show doesn't hold up well either.
Jack "Gravitas" Bauer?
Who the &%$! is Sydney Bristow?

I think Sydney Bristow is Jennifer Garner -- I didn't watch that show.
However, I can see Jack Bauer as a "tougher" guy than Magnum. But, shoot, Mannix was tougher than most of those, for crying out loud. Heck, even Spenser for Hire was tougher than Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- jeez louise! What a LOUSY list!
I'll be eager to hear the take on this from everyone else here. I don't know enough about current TV shows (though I DO think Michael Weston from "Burn Notice" should be on that list! He is even "tougher" than TM, I must admit, considering "apple to oranges" in terms of what's "toughest" under current condtions, if you see what I mean???)

Kids these days, that entire list should be upside down and Magnum should be #1!

MacGyver was only a poor man's A-Team anyway.
Where was B.A. Baracus??
And while Buffy indeed slayed many vampires, I wouldn't exactly call her tough.
As for the other two, never even watched them.
I suppose it's lucky ol' Thomas even made the top five!

I do love TM but....
Sidney Bristow kicked some major butt.... she is a true 'tough guy'

Um....
While I hate to be the lone voice of dissent... but Buffy was one tough broad.
She took a lickin and kept on tickin!

Hmm, I probably would have picked Kojak at #1, Elliot Stabler (Law & Order: SVU) #2, Mike Belker (Hill Street Blues) #3.
Truthfully, I'm kind of surprised that Magnum even made the top 5. Don't get me wrong, he is undeniably one tough dude, but that's not the first (or even second) thing you think about when the name Thomas Magnum comes up. Kojak, Stabler, Belker, Mannix, Baretta.... these guys define the word "tough". It's who they are. They can never be anything else but tough.

I have to agree with James........I liked Magnum because he wasn't the hard nosed, take no guff tough guy, PI. He was more like a mix of the tough guys and James Rockford wherein he could definitely deliver a punch that could knock someone out, but he took his fair share of beatings as well.........

I'm at a disadvantage here...MacGyver is the only name besides Magnum that I even recognize. Well, no. I have HEARD of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.
I agree with James and Steve. Magnum could certainly handle himself and was very capable of doing what needed to be done but he doesn't fit my definition of "tough".
Now that I think about it. You know who fits my definiton of "tough" better than Magnum? Jesse Stone.

I totally agree. I liked that TM could hold his own in a fight, but wasn't really a 'tough guy' and sometimes came off bruised and battered. In fact, baring that in mind, maybe it's surprising he even made the Top 5!

Why don't we just stick Doogy houser MD at the top of that list while we're at it. Take any two of your tough guys there and put them against TM and TC in a barfight and TM and TC take it every time.
