OK, here is his watch from "Photo Play." Definitely a different model than the one in the link you posted. The face is silver, not black, and it has two buttons instead of one.

The "topmost" button (as it would appear when he looked at the watch on his wrist; i.e. the one further left in this screen grab) was the one he pressed to make the alarm stop.

Nice work! I always thought Higgins had the same watch for the whole series.

Now where's the "Rick's Watch" thread? He had about 15 different watches.

You know what, on closer inspection I believe this watch has four buttons, not two. I am pretty sure there are two buttons on each side.

It might be this watch in a silver colorway: http://www.digital-watch.com/DWL/1work/seiko-a359-5010 or something similar.

Two more views. Definitely four buttons.

Excellent work! It is a different watch! Looks to be an 80's model Seiko digital.

Watched "Home From The Sea" the other day and thought how Higgins' watch must have bought the farm when he leaped in the water. I don't think those early model were more than splash proof against water.

Update, haha. I have no idea why I am spending time on this vital issue but he had the new silver faced watch as far back as S5 "Mac's Back."

Image

It appears in several other S5 episodes, most visibly in the pool hustle scene from "Luther Gillis File #001."

Since I have Starz pulled up for these screen shots I checked out "Home from the Sea" real quick and although his wrist is not seen clearly, in the brief glimpses with lots of splashing water it looks like he isn't wearing a watch. Must have taken it off for the water work.

In S4 "Luther Gillis #521" he still had the black faced watch. Will have to search more later.

Well, I couldn't stay away from this earth shaking issue soooo I have the answer, or as close as I think we can get.

Higgins is still wearing the black faced watch in the last ep of S4, "I Witness."

Image

He has the new silver faced watch in S5 E3 "Mac's Back" (I could not see his watch clearly in either of the "Echoes of the Mind" eps) so it seems the silver faced watch, with the alarm, was new for season 5.

Next up: checking late in the series to see if perhaps there was eventually a third watch...   :higgins:

All right... the final episode in which the old black faced watch appears is S5 "Echoes of the Mind."

Image

So the new silver faced watch was first seen in S5 "Mac's Back."

Whew!

I came across this thread: http://magnum-mania.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1004 in which it was suggested that Higgins' watch in the pilot was an entirely different watch. I grabbed this image...

...and it looks to me like the original black faced watch, not a different one.

I didn't expect to see any difference in Higgins' watch in the pilot. The pilot is one of my favourite episodes and I would have noticed it.

Thanks for your research, K Hale!

It would be nice if someone with the Blu-Ray versions could take clearer screenshots.

Looks like Mr. Higgins has something else in common with Mr. Bond...

Aha! Maybe Higgins' watch has secret functions we don't know about...
