This episode features screen legend Mercedes McCambridge, actress/singer Andrea Marcovicci and the great Ted Danson.

This is one of my favorite episodes from Season 1. Great cast, a good mystery plot, a great twist at the end and a touching denouement. And if that's not enough, a classic fight between future stars Ted Danson and Tom Selleck on a yacht should perk your interest. Ted's character has the misfortune to be run over by a boat propeller! Shocked

So, I was checking out some IMDB credits recently and I came across this guy, Jim Reynolds (Frank LaRue). The guy is apparently a porn "star" who goes by the stage name "R.J. Reynolds"! Shocked It's not every day that you see porn "stars" in your favorite TV show! Confused

He also had a small role in "Past Tense".

Maybe I should start a new page for the site, "Shocking Trivia"!

Amy Crane plays a lovely classical piano piece at the beginning of this episode. Does anyone happen to know the name of the piece and/or the composer?

Here is an audio clip of the piece: http://magnum-mania.com/Audio/Piano_DSG.html

It looks to me like "Ugliest Dog" isn't the only episode with outtakes behind the closing credits, after all. The first two scenes behind the closing credits of "Don't Say Goodbye" appear to be outtakes:

1. Magnum grabs at a piece of paper, but then drops it.

2. T. C. flicks water (or whatever's in his glass) in Rick's face.

More outtakes! Yeah! Cool

Thanks Carol!

Here is another one for the list.

Mob, Murder and Magnum, P.I.: It's the biggest mob murder trial in U.S. history. In Chicago last week, three members of the Chicago mob and former Chicago policeman went on trial for 18 murders, including the notorious beating death of fellow mobsters Anthony "The Ant" Spilotro and his brother Michael, found buried in a cornfield.

The film "Casino" includes a movie version of the murder. Dedicated viewers of "Magnum, P.I." saw Michael Spilotro in a 1981 episode titled "Thicker Than Blood." Ironically, he played a federal agent.

Spilotro was a friend of Magnum co-star, Larry Manetti. "I didn't know Michael as a gangster," Manetti told the Chicago Tribune. "I knew him as a guy I grew up with in the neighborhood. Michael wanted to be on TV, that's all."

Wow! That is some shocking info Sam! Shocked

It appears, however, that he didn't get into "mob activities" until after his appearance on MPI.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Spilotro

Here he is in "Thicker than Blood" (left) as a Federal Agent of things!...

James,from the Wikipedia link..

Michael was the manager of Hoagie's Pub on the West Side of Chicago and stayed out of mob activities. However, around 1980, he started hanging around with members of the Outfit, including his brother Tony.

Don't Say Goodbye air date was 3-26-81,so it was probably shot in 81.Me thinks he was involved by this time.

I did find one mistake with the Wiki link....

Through his relationship with Larry Manetti he had connections in the Plaza Hotel & Casino when it was under the ownership of the Barrick Gaming Corporation.

Michael got whacked in 1986.Barrick bought the "Plaza" in 2004 and sold it 2005.So that doesn't jive.
