#1 Post by Danno »

Chris Evans (Captain America) is being or has been considered to play to role of Magnum...
Have you guys seen this?

This is from 2012, but looks like Chris isn't opposed to the idea:

Hey Danno,

I wouldn't mind Chris Evans as Magnum... and Bradley Cooper I could get behind.

(Actually, Bradley Cooper as Rick would be awesome).

I just can't wrap my head around this Thurber guy doing the movie. I mean Dodgeball and We're The Millers were funny (and 21 Jump Street made me howl).. but I don't want to go to a Magnum PI movie and my first instinct is to laugh.

I can see it being Duke Of Hazzard-ish at worst.. or Starsky and Hutch at it's best (with this guy directing). or just stuff blowing up all the time.

I'd like to be positive, and lets face it they could do Magnum as a Bollywood musical... and I'd probably still go and see it.. but I have misgivings.

I'd like to know what TS thinks of the script treatment.

Of all the non Selleck choices bandied about, I still think Matthew McConaughey would be the best choice. I think he could balance the serious with the goofy well enough to keep the original feel.

I think a new actor would likely lose the mo though.
It's too much associated with Selleck... a new guy would need to make the role their own?

IMO, both of those guys way to fem to ever play the role of MPI.

Hadn't thought of him, but yeah, I really like him as an actor. I know other people don't care for him, but I like his style, he can play goofy like in Sahara, or serious like in The Lincoln Lawyer. MPI had a mix of both serious and goofy.

Edit: Probably give the role to Brian Cranston, LOL.
Uh PHRASING!!!!

Should a new actor be recruited to step into the shoes of Thomas Magnum. I kinda like Matthew Fox, who played the role of the Doctor Shepherd on Lost. I think's he's got that tall, lean and dark look going on. And he isn't too young. To me, Thurber looks too polished for Magnum. And I never liked the idea of McConaughey playing Magnum at all (I saw one article online - may or may not be trusted - that pretty much said executives were thinking about just recasting everyone from Sahara into a new Magnum Pi movie - UG!)

Dangerous waters here with this question. Would a "rerisen" Thomas Magnum have to have a mustache?

A link to a pic of the actor Matthew Fox.
