Not quite.

1) When the gang arrives at the estate do dig up the roses, among the convoy we can see the light blue van driven by the villains. Yet the villains are nowhere to be seen since they planted the fake clue and headed to the falls. Who's driving the van then?
wasn't that was rick driving the van? remember he (rick) "had a plan", and that plan was to follow around tc. a pretty darn good plan if you ask me :-)
2) What business did TC and Agatha have flying the chopper over the falls on the final scene? Shouldn't TC be with the gang?
as he has done in the past, that was magnums "back-up", having tc at the ready with the chopper.

Royal Order of Water Buffalo's

Watched this episode tonight and thought that it was funny that at the hotel close to the first clue the Royal Order of Water Buffalo's were having a convention. This is the same club that Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble were members of.

I remember thinking the same thing!

I enjoyed this silly, fun-filled episode that at times reminded me, as others, of Mad, Mad, Mad World... especially when they all converged on the estate, jumped out of their vehicles and RAN toward the flower bed and started digging.

Yes, it was fun, but not really a great show... I gave it an 8.0.

Flubs??? Well, I consider it a constant and running flub in this series as well as in other shows that with different camera angles of a particular scene the sky can be heavily overcast in one direction with no shadows visible, and then instantly, with the camera on another person, there are no clouds and a bright sun showing very distinct and contrasty shadows on another person, even if standing next to each other. Or, in a similar way, when the camera faces someone it's obvious the sun is shining brightly, but when the camera is on the other side of the subject, there is clearly no sun shining. This very thing happened in this episode... Maybe I'm too critical, but when that happens it really destroys the continuity to me.
Woof, woof... thirty years uglier!... woof, woof...

This was a great episode for all of the reasons already cited. And this:

I liked that. Those kind of details give the show a sense of continuity.

He also mentions that he has read Tolstoy. Magnum was reading Tolstoy's War and Peace in The Return of Luther Gillis.

Magnum says that he escorted Robin Masters around the island to "scout locations" for his new book. In "The Case of the Red Faced Thespian" (S4), it is stated that Robin "never does research for his novels". Scouting novel locations is considered research.

I enjoy this episode allot, for many reasons, most of which have already been mentioned.

The quote (above) leaves me with a "quandry" though.....if TM personally escorted RM around the island, why would he still wonder if Higgins is actually RM? Only thing I have come up with so far is, Higgins could have hired an actor to play RM, but it would have served no purpose other than to convince TM that he (Higgins) is NOT RM.

There are other instances throughout the series that raise the same question/situation, like when TM has the hidden manuscript given to him by RM, etc.

So why until the very end, would TM still be wondering and asking if Higgins is actually RM? Not completely ruling it out, only suggesting that IF JQH IS actually RM, he went to very great lengths to cover it up on more than a few occasions. :magnum:

I liked the light-heartedness of this episode, and as others have pointed out, seeing quite a number of series "regular" bit part players all assembed in the same story. I also was reminded of the Mad Mad Mad World movie, which is a hoot, to be sure. The same thought occurred to me concerning the Water Buffalo convention, and wondered if the writers were rubbing it in even deeper with the "reduce it to RUBBLE" comment........after all, what was Barney's last name

Anyway............very fun episode! :D

Agreed, a fun and entertaining episode. I also immediately made the Flintstones connection. Yabba dabba doo.

Nancy Stafford was hot, top ten MPI babe. Looked great in the short nighty. A former Miss Florida, probably some stiff competition there. BTW, about when did the fashion for ladies skirt lengths get higher? It seems that in most episodes the gals have the skirts at knee length, although we do get some slits. Somewhere in the 80's hem lines went up, which was fine with me.

Give this a 9.

I liked how the lyrics to Jimmy Buffetts Pencil Thin Mustache are in the episode.

Is it possible they would have used the same location? I haven't had time to check it out... but they at least look like similar locations.

Wow, great call! I see in other posts that it is not in fact the same one from Raiders of the Lost Ark but I think the exact same thing everytime I watch this one. I really think this is an outsanding episode and gave it a 9. I love seeing all the regular recurring actors all brought together for this episode, and even more fun that it was for a Robin Masters themed treasure hunt! Love TC's mention of reading Robins Masters and Mad Buck Gibson to his girlfriend. Bringing up old characters like that adds realism to the show. And boy did I feel bad for TM having to travel around with Ms. Griswold, she was not hard on the eyes but man, she was one mean woman!! The scene in the hotel where Magnum is drinking beer and eating pizza and wanting to watch the Tigers vs. Blue Jays game but is stuck watching Woody Wood Pecker cartoons is so classic Magnum. I know some members have posted their dislike for Magnum's unwillingness to grow up and his sometimes childish behavior and habits. I myself find it to be hilarious and love it! It also makes him seem more real because I think some of that is truly in Tom Selleck's character and shows out through Magnum. And what a fantastic ending, that scene with everyone jumping in the water amid a storm of $100 bills raining down is awesome. Especially the exchange between Magnum and Higgins.

Magnum "I guess we'll be doing this for a long, long time?"

Higgins "Yes, always actually!"

I like this as it makes me feel like Magnum will never end lol. And I can totally admit that I have trouble watching season 8 episodes because I know the end is near (ok maybe that is a little much or sad and I should get a life but it's true!)

Well said, and evokes the same feeling in me. A paradox if ever there was one. Some great episodes in season 8, but hard to fully enjoy them knowing each progressive one is leading to the eventual end of the series.

Makes a good case for enjoying the "moment" getting into separate episodes just on it's own merits.

At any rate, good to know there others "out there" who share similar feelings. One almost starts to wonder if there's something dreadfully "wrong" when it seems you are alone in your way of thinking...... :magnum:

Kapena Falls is indeed where they jump. i visited there myself and even jumped a couple times! It's definitely the spot, and just a small hike off the pali highway. thanks rubber chicken for sending me in the right direction. :)

I clearly remember a very attractive Nancy Stafford even though she portrayed a "bad guy." Everybody got in on the action for a million dollar prize! It was definitely a Magnum-lite but a heckuva lot of fun to watch.

Nancy Stafford as Amy Griswold makes this episode nearly unwatchable. I worked in hotels for many years and ran into many of her kind along the way. And like Amy Griswold and her behavior during the check-in scene, I can only hope karma eventually had its way with them.

Truly, I'm in the midst of watching it again and it's taking all my will to not skip ahead to the next episode...especially after the succession of screams in the hotel room. Only the efforts of the rest of the cast are keeping me in the game.

I have only recently started getting into rewatching seasons 5-8 of the series, being a season 1-4 "creature of habit", and this season sure is testing my resolve. Thus far episodes have been too heavy, too annoying, too absurd...or a combination of the three. :-)

(on a technical note, on my DVD, the audio is marred by static on the highest frequency content, and the picture quality is mediocre compared to previous episodes in the same set)

I can appreciate your feelings about Season 6. I did a some analysis and posted it in Best and Weakest Seasons thread on March 2, 2016 on Page 4 of 5. Season 6 came in as the least favorite of all by the voting forum members and Season 5 was next to last. Maybe you should go on to 7 and 8 because they were much better liked by the forum. I also agree that Seasons 1-4 were better especially 1 and 2.
