Feel so sorry for TM when he finally gets to the final game and is forced to leave!

When T.M. is at the stadium and on the phone with Higgins you see a play at home plate on the TV screen. You see the same play during Jaroro Farewell. I can't quite make out the name of the guy sliding into Home.

I also noticed that the above referenced play was also seen in Jororo Farewell. I liked this episode and all the Selleck/Tigers scenes, especially with Trammell and Whitaker. What a cool guest appearance for all us Tigers fans!!! So am I correct in assuming that Charley did payoff the fighters and they were throwing the matches or did TC really win? I know he beat the last guy but I've always had slight confusion about that as Leon suggests that they were paid to lose.

not a big fan of this episode, although Roger did well in his role. He didn't overact. Other than that, Selleck's appearance was cheesy. It just seemed like a lot of mediocre acting. Ironically, the ring scenes were handled well enough. This is one I could go a long time before watching again.

Am I the only one to think that Platt fella is one passive-aggresive, emotionally manipulative son of a gun? Only St. Theodore of Louisiana would put up with that.

isn't the fact that magnum did not recognize alan trammell and lou whitaker a flub? those two were the "face" of the tigers back then, any baseball fan, especially a tigers fanatic, would have been able to pick them out. now granted, i suppose magnum would not expect to run into them in some local bar but still.

nonetheless, i enjoyed the episode, not great but still an enjoyable one.

Well spotted! I don't think shock is an excuse. On several occasions I've bumped into players of my favorite team in real-life situations and I recognized them immediately.

thanks.

just like you, and most/all fans of a specific team, i know that if i ran into one of the athletes from "my" team i would recognize them. especially a guy like trammell, he is pretty distinct looking.

He wasn't thinking straight. He was flustered because he couldn't see the game. ;)

Somewhere in Hawaii right now, perhaps behind a desk, Magnum is raging mad because Alan Trammell (and Jack Morris) has been denied Hall of Fame entrance yet again! :(
Higgins: It's not a scratch! It's a bloody gouge!

This one took the Vietnam Vet loyalty/camaraderie theme a little too far for me. It also kind of solidifies TC's character as more of a big brute which is the exact opposite of his do-gooder roles. Maybe I just don't like the overt violence of the fighting.

Contrary to popular belief, bare-knuckle boxing is safer than boxing with padded gloves. In the former, hard punches to the head are relatively rare, because they tend to injure the hand of the person who threw the punch. In the latter, the padded gloves protect the hands, so hard punches to the head are a lot more common.

Of course, on TV and in movies (this episode of MPI included), people can throw hundreds of full-power bare-knuckle punches to their opponent's head without harming their hands in the least.

I liked this one. Amazing list of guest stars: Shannen Doherty, Donald Gibb, and Trammel and Whitaker. The stock footage of baseball games is always cheesy looking, and there is NO way that TM is not going to recognize the starting middle infield of the Tigers in the bar. Funny ending with Higgins and the lads answering to Buster and Bobby K.

Do you guys think the scenes with Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker were shot in Hawaii or somewhere else? Someone here mentioned that the reason Selleck had limited screen time may have been due to him filming some movie during this time and that his scenes may not even have been filmed in Hawaii. But then they would still need to get Trammell and Whitaker to wherever Selleck was filming. I doubt those 2 just happened to be on hand wherever Selleck was, unless it happened to be in Detroit. On the other hand, the Detroit bartender is played by a local Hawaiian actor so I'm inclined to think that Selleck was in Hawaii for his scenes. I've never known local Hawaiian stock actors to appear in stuff shot on the mainland. Which means that Trammell and Whitaker probably got a nice Hawaiian vacation out of this episode. :D
