Not too much to say about this one, other than the Brady Brunch Hawaii episodes kinda ruined this one for me. Hard to disassociate the the curse of the tiki and the curse of the ki'i, for me at least. Amusing, but not notable other than for the guest stars.
Also, given how unappealing the Simon Bros come off in this episode, why would anyone have wanted to follow up on their show? It's almost like the writers felt the same antagonism toward them that Thomas clearly feels when he finally interrogates them in the hotel room. You'd think CBS would have insisted on a more favorable light being shone on them in the script. Especially A.J., he's nigh-on intolerable. I assume they were more charming and appealing on their own show, otherwise I have no idea how it ever survived.
I did notice in the Century City shots, they've covered up presumably the "American" or "National" on the sign, just leaving "Broadcasting Companies."
CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS
Catherine: l'm sorry you had to change your plans tonight.
Magnum: l didn't have any plans. l just like to be asked, not ordered.
Magnum: Why did you want to have dinner with me?
Catherine: l just wanted to discuss the auction.
Magnum: And?
Catherine: And despite some material advantages...l sometimes get very lonely. Don't you?
Magnum: Sometimes. But never on a case.
Higgins: They tore the Kahaluna down back in '68, l believe. Yes, l recall escorting Clive Jackson-Parr and his lovely wife Astrid there. lt had a chemin de fer table equal to anything in Monte Carlo. l was quite a chemi player myself. Yes, l've passed the shoe to the best of them. l remember once playing with Ferdinand ll - rather sore loser who....[cut to shot of the dogs chasing the other Simon] He was of the nobility as far as the peerage was concerned, but the police still thought...[Dogs barking]. Excuse me.
FROM THE MEMOIRS
l smiled modestly as the Duke shook my hand and thanked me for a job well done. l had looked forward to a well-earned vacation. However, as l turned away, l heard the words, “We have some trouble in Patagonia.” Needless to say, l didn't unpack.
