I just don't think they can come up with anything better than the original.
Whatever they will create will be a step down from the perfect show we
all know as Magnum PI.
The idea that Tom Selleck is too old to play Thomas Magnum is ridiculous.
Have any of us remained the same age. NO, of course not. What the
fans of Magnum are looking for is the rest of the story.
We do not want different actors, we do not want a different story, we just
want to know what the guys have been up to.
Just my opinion

Good point, and I agree with you, Sophia.sophia wrote:Dan

I would prefer to see Selleck and team get back into the role too.
Though, if it is going to be a new, younger cast I don't mind either.
Yeah, it will never be the same as the original- but neither would a new film with the original cast in it, come to think of it.
I don't want to see it fail though. I'd like to see what they can do with the Magnum story for a 2008/09 audience more for curiosity than anything else- I don't think there's any loss if it sucks or not. If anything, it will make the original just seem more classic.

I understand your point.
The original Magnum pi is surely a classic.
We will have it forever.
I wonder about the motives behind this new movie.
If it is to make fun of, that bothers me.
I guess we won't know till it comes out.
You will have to let me know because I won't be going to see it.
Ofcourse unless you tell me it was great, that they treated Magnum with
the respect he should have, but I don't see it happening.

A tv reunion show,we can always hope!!!
At least we saw them on Las Vegas.

http://movies.monstersandcritics.com/ne ... agnum_roleMel B looking at Magnum role
Mel B is reportedly set to star in the new 'Magnum' film.
The Spice Girl - who is keen to make it as an actress - is believed to have won a part in the big screen version of the hit 80s show, which was about a private investigator living in Hawaii.
A source said: "Mel will play a tough-talking detective. Her no-nonsense attitude will make her a great addition to the cast."
The TV show, on which the movie is based, 'Magnum, P.I.' saw Tom Selleck play Thomas Magnum, an investigator who solved crimes while driving around in his Ferrari 308 GTS.
Although the cast is yet to be officially announced, it was recently reported that Matthew McConaughey would play Magnum.
Actors Steve Zahn, Tyrese Gibson and William H. Macy are rumoured to be playing the characters Rick, T.C, and Higgins respectively.
NOOOO!!! This is just all wrong!!! All of it!
Trying to reach my full snail potential.

He's baaaaaaack......
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum. He's reading the script and will decide shortly.

The more I think about it, of all the guys out there, Matt is probably one of the few guys that could actually pull this off. Again, no one can replace Selleck, but if it must be with a different cast, I'd be comfortable with this choice.

Higgins: It's not a scratch! It's a bloody gouge!
I wonder if he'll have the "Wooderson" stache?

I agree with James. MM probably could give us the laid back delivery of TS as Magnum. All I know is that he wouldn't rat out the "growers" like Magnum did in "The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii"

As much as I dislike George Clooney, I think he is a good actor (not as good as Mr. Selleck though!) and would do a decent job as Magnum. If you want to know what makes me think so, rent a movie called "Intolerable Cruelty" to check out Clooney's acting chops. A much better choice than McConaghy! But if I had my "druthers", I'd druther see Mr. Selleck, Mr. Manetti, and Mr. Mosely reprise their roles in a story that picks up their lives in present times. JMHO!

Entertainment Tonight on TV RIGHT NOW and the teaser at the first of the show reinforced the Matthew McConnaghy (sp?) offer. ET said it is confirmed that it is just a "RUMOR" that he has been offered the role, definitely. I think . . . . It did advise that he might be reading a script and considering it.
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I liked him in "A Time to Die" and particularly in "U-571." But his "Sahara" role as Dirk Pitt was SO DREADFUL that I canNOT see him in an action figure role as anything but a JOKE. I'd rather see Steve Carell from "The Office" as TM than MMcC! (though Steve C. wouldn't make a bad Rick, come to think of it).
Anyway, I can't imagine going to see an MPI movie with MMcC as TSMIV. I'd rather see Tim Allen as TM than MMcC!! And William H. Macy is NOT Higgins. Higgins may be snippy and slightly prissy, but he's not wimpy, which Macy usually plays, and plays well. Every re-creation of the four major roles needs to be strong in each character's own way. I'm totally disgusted with currently rumored casting.
Fingernails on a blackboard!!! Or gag me with a spoon!
