I finally watched the rest of the season premier, not a bad episode with some of the best parkour I have seen since the 007 movie Casino Royale. It was kind of like the opening and ending scenes in Hotel Dick but on steroids and looks like they filmed it next to the hotel used in that episode.................

I agree with you that it wasn't a bad episode, but I would've left Steve meeting STEVE out of the show altogether.
The parkour scene was good and quite long.......I liked the move he made on Chin going up the stairs.....a few of the other moves I would've tweaked, but still entertaining to watch.

Did anyone else catch the Magnum comment that a detective made to Danno in regards to trying to dress more like Magnum.....everybody liked that guy?
They even had a Tanaka in this episode, but he wasn't a lieutenant...this one was retired Captain Tanaka.

I still struggle with this show's stretched stories and really bad chase scenes.......tell me how a shooter with an automatic rifle can pepper an ambulance with four people inside and not hit one of them....in fact he can't even shoot out the back door windows of the ambulance. Fast forward.......where multiple shooters with the same fire power can then shoot at Danno, who is now on foot and still miss him, yet Danno has no problem knocking them off with his hand pistol and the retired Tanaka can kill one with a shotgun.
The part about the HPD being too far away to help Danny either at the hospital or on the road was hard to believe, especially when SUPER Steve can hop in his truck and come out of nowhere to save Danny and company. Either tone the scene down or make it more believable.

I did like that they gave us some background info on how Danny met Steve.

I would like to see the show get darker and more serious with a lot less fluff. Also, the addition of the background music from the original HFO episodes might go over well with the fans.....at least try it for a few episodes.

Hi Kenji,
You really nailed for me what's wrong with 'new' Hawaii 5-0, well said. How is it the original from 50 years ago has in many respects superior production values? The new one would benefit as you said by using the music from the original.
The original cast also had more gravitas, they were adults, the current lead is more a MTV cop with his 3 day beard, the producers hiring a Ken Doll instead of an actor. No sane governor of a state would appoint someone who apparently bought all his clothes at Justin Bieber's garage sale as head of the state's elite police unit.
Kenji, your pointing out the automatic weapon's ineffectiveness versus a handgun! is also spot on.
I often cringe at times at the portrayal of violence on the series, they ought to take a page out of Lee Marvin's playbook. When he was able he insisted on the violence he meted out on screen be realistic as "it is what it is". Anything less is farce.
Said farce ruined, for you, the above episode you cited.
I am so disappointed the new Hawaii 5-0 isn't better than it is.

Hi Dobie,

Glad you feel the same way! It's a real shame what they've done with this reboot. You had me laughing with your Ken Doll/actor and Justin Bieber/clothing comments, so true!
Maybe a writer's strike might be a good thing!!!!!!!

I beg to differ. People said the same thing about Don Johnson in the 80s and he was the only regular on Miami Vice with a shred of talent.
There are things to complain about the reboot, but the acting is not one of them. Alex O'Loughlin's acting is the best thing about the show. The acting on the original was atrocious. Frankly, today's TV actors just blow actors from the 60s/70s TV era away and I say that as someone who likes a lot of shows from that time and disagrees with tons of PC crap currently coming out of Hollywood. Lack of acting talent is not what's wrong with modern TV. To me, the new Five-0 is the closest thing to 1980s style TV that's currently running.

Alex O'Loughlin has grown on me over time as has the entire cast (funny how so many of our action stars in american tv and movies come from the British Isles or Australia). Despite the weakness of many of the episodes (and I agree it could go darker without over the top shoot-outs) It's still one of the few shows on network TV that if I don't watch live I at least DVD.
I was wondering if anyone else would catch the Magnum reference and the use of the name Tanaka.
Bring back James Caan!!!!

It's funny that I jumped in here to defend it because I didn't get into the show until about a year ago. I saw the pilot back in 2010, but I had to work on Monday nights back then and I never got to watch it. It's been on my "to watch list" since then. Anyway, I finally watched it from the beginning on Netflix and I'm thinking why haven't I been watching this for the last 6 years? It's got all the stuff I like: handsome heroic character in the lead, beautiful scenery, adventure/action, military stuff, a little comedy, a little drama, and a little mystery/intrigue. It's not on my exalted list with Magnum, but it's pretty good.

I caught the Tanaka reference, and I had to laugh that "Tanaka" was played by a big tall guy! I wouldn't mind seeing Scott's dad back on the show too, I liked that episode he was on in season 2.

Nice find RG!
I've only known the Ventures version without any lyrics.
Here are the actual lyrics for the versions you've found.......

First Don's.....
"If you're feelin' lonely
You can come with me
Feel my arms around you
Lay beside the seaaaaaa
We will think of somethin' to do
Do it til it's perfect for you
And for me too
You can come with meeeee.
So leave your world behind you
You can come with me
Sing a song I'll teach you
Live your fantasyyyyyyy
Love ya in a natural way
Doesn't matter what time of day
You and I play
You can come with meeeee
Won'tcha come with meeee
You can come with meeee."

Sammy Davis Jr. You Can Count On Me (Hawaii 5-0) Lyrics
If you get in trouble
Bring it home to me
Whether I am near you
Or across the sea

I will think of something to do
I'll be on the lookout for you
And I'll find you
You can count on me

And don't you let 'em get you
Up against the wall
'Cause I'll be there to catch you
And I won't let you fall

Call me if they hit you below
Call me when there's nowhere to go
And I'll be there
You can count on me (You can count on me)

And if they all desert you
And you start to bend
You know I won't let them hurt you
And I don't pretend

Don't call if you've got nothing to say
Don't call me if you just want to play
But call me on Devil's Day
You can count on me

You can count on
You can count on
You can count on
You can count on

Count on me!

Thanks again RG!
