Okay, that last episode was one of the dumbest I've seen in awhile......an Ironman knock off, a computer generated elephant and the police station being attacked yet again has me shaking my head. Sometimes I wonder about who is writing for this show and what were they thinking.......I can picture the cast reading their scripts and rolling their eyes. I still enjoy the Hawaiian scenery though so I keep tuning in even when then storyline gets ridiculous.

I agree, I was cringing thru the entire episode. I just keep hoping that they will someday have a Blue Bloods crossover episode with Tom Selleck as a guest star. Kenji, did you see the episode a while back with Elisa Dulce Hoopai. Gives me hope to keep watching (that and the scenery)

Quoted for truth and emphasis!

Had the same reaction, do you figure Jack Lord is spinning in his grave?

I too still enjoy the Hawaiian scenery, but that was about the only saving grace of last nights episode! :magnum:

Hi Steve,

Yes I did catch that episode with Elisa and it was one of the better ones.....I'm going to check out who wrote that one and who wrote last nights episode......I hope it's not the same person! The cast must get nervous when the writers come up with the an Iron Man like character.....what's next, a Spider Man burglar who swings from one hotel high rise to the next......viewers will eventually tune out, even with the beautiful scenery that keeps us hypnotized. Another scene from last night that had me shaking my head was when the team were HIDING in the field. Wearing black mixed with a few Hawaiian shirts in a beige colored dried out field at a distance of about 60 feet doesn't give you any sort of camouflage and element of surprise........I get that it's only a tv show, but try and make an effort to make the scene somewhat real/believable....it doesn't have to be perfect......maybe only have Kono (the team sniper) hiding out there in real camo (even covered in field grass) blending in the terrain and the rest of the team hiding further back over a ridge or in some trees.

Hi 308GUY,

I vaguely remember Jack Lord being cremated and his ashes scattered in the ocean which is a good thing otherwise he would be rolling in his grave and possibly climbing out in search of the writers who are tarnishing the show.

Well, I guess maybe he'd be churning in the tidal pool then?

I do kinda wonder what his take on something like that episode would've been though.

Oh well, it IS television after all!

Regardless, they had better can't back on track with some good story lines and great guest stars or this episode might be considered its "jumping the shark" moment...........Memo to writers...If you are going to do a story about an 80 million dollar iron man/power rangers suit that is practically indestructible you might want to come up with a better ending than its occupant is taken out by a car accident.LOL..........

I think the show "jumped the shark" when a drone was chasing Steve and Danno through downtown Honolulu.

Well they've done it again.........the return of Jack Lord in a church!

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/09/23/ha ... lord-cameo

They do like to stretch things on this show! What's next, Lily Magnum comes onto the scene in a crossover  ......I doubt this would happen as one show isn't even in production and they would be on different networks.

On another note, it will be interesting to see how the chess killer plays out over this season. I'm sure Steve will say "Checkmate" when he catches or shoots the killer.....time will tell.

I was watching last night and had to turn it off after that. I did DVR it but I'm not in any hurry after watching that freaky scene. They have the replica of the original car and that should have been enough of a tie in to the original............Remember script writers, if it isn't Star Trek you can't get away with an original character conversing with the current version............

I finally watched the rest of the season premier, not a bad episode with some of the best parkour I have seen since the 007 movie Casino Royale. It was kind of like the opening and ending scenes in Hotel Dick but on steroids and looks like they filmed it next to the hotel used in that episode.................

I agree with you that it wasn't a bad episode, but I would've left Steve meeting STEVE out of the show altogether.
The parkour scene was good and quite long.......I liked the move he made on Chin going up the stairs.....a few of the other moves I would've tweaked, but still entertaining to watch.

Did anyone else catch the Magnum comment that a detective made to Danno in regards to trying to dress more like Magnum.....everybody liked that guy?
They even had a Tanaka in this episode, but he wasn't a lieutenant...this one was retired Captain Tanaka.

I still struggle with this show's stretched stories and really bad chase scenes.......tell me how a shooter with an automatic rifle can pepper an ambulance with four people inside and not hit one of them....in fact he can't even shoot out the back door windows of the ambulance. Fast forward.......where multiple shooters with the same fire power can then shoot at Danno, who is now on foot and still miss him, yet Danno has no problem knocking them off with his hand pistol and the retired Tanaka can kill one with a shotgun.
The part about the HPD being too far away to help Danny either at the hospital or on the road was hard to believe, especially when SUPER Steve can hop in his truck and come out of nowhere to save Danny and company. Either tone the scene down or make it more believable.

I did like that they gave us some background info on how Danny met Steve.

I would like to see the show get darker and more serious with a lot less fluff. Also, the addition of the background music from the original HFO episodes might go over well with the fans.....at least try it for a few episodes.

Hi Kenji,
You really nailed for me what's wrong with 'new' Hawaii 5-0, well said. How is it the original from 50 years ago has in many respects superior production values? The new one would benefit as you said by using the music from the original.
The original cast also had more gravitas, they were adults, the current lead is more a MTV cop with his 3 day beard, the producers hiring a Ken Doll instead of an actor. No sane governor of a state would appoint someone who apparently bought all his clothes at Justin Bieber's garage sale as head of the state's elite police unit.
Kenji, your pointing out the automatic weapon's ineffectiveness versus a handgun! is also spot on.
I often cringe at times at the portrayal of violence on the series, they ought to take a page out of Lee Marvin's playbook.
When he was able he insisted on the violence he meted out on screen be realistic as "it is what it is, anything less is farce."
Said farce ruined, for you, the above episode you cited.
I am so disappointed the new Hawaii 5-0 isn't better than it is.

Hi Dobie,

Glad you feel the same way! It's a real shame what they've done with this reboot. You had me laughing with your Ken Doll/actor and Justin Bieber/clothing comments, so true!
Maybe a writer's strike might be a good thing!!!!!!!
